In case no one goes to Sky Scraper City, they have a nice thread on the progress of BC Place. A couple of days ago, someone got a pic of the samples of the new seats. Apparently they are supposed to be wider and more comfortable than the light blues.
Seats and roof are now being installed. http://www.news1130.com/news/local/...-renos-on-sched-for-new-roof-seating-and-turf
True. It's funny that in 1983 the capacity of BC Place with the blue seats was 59,000. Now with the wider red seats it is 54,000.
I fail to see how having a fat-kid argument is relevant to BC place and the Caps. Let's get back on topic instead of debating the state of our health. if you guys want to start a rambling Not-Soccer-Related banter thread go for it...no reason to thread crap decent info threads like this. **Edit** In fact I'll start one for you.
It wasn't relevant; but an interesting topic since some people think it does not burden our system. ON TOPIC: I have tix to the first game at BC place with the Lions.. very excited to see it.
https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1769377 There's the link to the NSR Thread. I think that could be a fun little spot on BS for us to have a poke at each other and general banter. Do it there. As far as BC Place, I was stunned to drive by it last week. it really is taking shape. I will be doing my best to lock up tix to a Leo's game just to get in there and experience the new digs even though I REALLY Don't care about Canadian Throwball.
Wow. Just wow. I didn't believe I was rambling, nor did I think I was crapping on this thread. I'll stop, but this Whitecaps section of the board has almost zero new posting on most days...people should be glad that some people are participating.
exactly- the southsiders group always get p##sed at people who go against their credos-- they either 'beat on them', ignore them, or try and get them banned from this board and their own forum at least people were posting more until the southsiders got unglued with comments that went against their credos, such as the waterfront stadium, marcus haber and who is a fan/supporter of the caps whatever happened to freedom to express, creative debate (even if edgy), and touches of sarcastic humor??
Guys, it's not personal, I'd just rather not see discussion of epidemic obesity and other what not clouding what could be a great thread about BC Place. I get that it was a side of the mouth jab at the wider seats. I'm not trying to be a heavy, I just saw it as a good shot to open a NSR Banter thread to stimulate more conversation even if it was NSR... I'm glad that our 7-8 frequent posters post as much as they do... I'm also glad that our IQ level is considerable higher than other parts of Big Soccer. Let's keep ourselves to a higher standard.
^ completely agree. Also has anyone thought of a nickname yet for it? i mean nothing beats the garage next door, (i dont care if its rogers arena now lol) but ive been calling it the lion/bird cage for a while now lol.
The "Garage" is now being called the "Rog" by a lot of people...so it was a relatively easy thing to transfer to! I think that building will always be called BC Place for us local schmucks. I'd almost suggest that it will have some sort of sponsorship attached to it based on the team inside, like the Bell/BMO pitch at BC Place for Whitecaps games and Telus/Purolator Field at BC Place for Lions games... I don't know, just spitballing.
I'm guessing it will just be called Telus Place which will be funny with all the Bell advertising all over the stadium for Whitecaps games.
I hope they drop the "place" from the stadium name. It's stupid. It was originally called the Stadium at BC Place, so lets just call it "whatever" stadium. So Telus Stadium is fine. Telus place stinks. ...and no I've never named a stadium so I don't know why I should think I know more than someone who names stadiums for a living.
it will probably have a field sponsor like "optic field" at BC Place. BC Place is like Skydome, we dont wanna call it the Rogers Centre.

What's with the red/silver seats? Did PavCo get a discount if they picked those colours? Reminds me of Toronto's colours. So is there no possibility of getting grass in the renovated BC Place? I imagine players would much prefer to play on grass than turf, hence why all the Euro clubs that come over only play on grass. Also, glad to see the Whitecaps are having no problem finding the back of the net tonight!
Grass is not possible as they want to fill 200 dates a year with events that require ,in manycases,to cover the field. Grass could not survive this. The only way would be taking the grass outside on pallets as is done in other places; but there is no area around BC Place to do this. Even if you over came those two issues, you are stuck with the BC Lions. CFL tears the shit out of grass and that would be worse for soccer than turf probably. Sadly, we will not get grass in BC Place. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong; but I do not think PavCo will ever go with permanent grass. We will probably have some nice temp grass for a friendly once a year!
latest update just b4 it opens next week-- looks great!! apparently the roof opens in under 20 minutes! http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Place+icon+city+ever+changing+landscape/5444012/story.html what will be interesting to see is what fills in the other 300-320 days of the year at BC Place, beyond the MLS Caps soccer and CFL Lions football
You guys have a stadium to be proud of..!!! And honestly, I think you've got a good core group of players that are great to watch. I hope you guys can ultimately top the Sounders in attendance. Makes us Revs fans jealous to see all the stadium porn....but, you can't argue with great ownership!! Does your owner also own the cfl team..or is the stadium a shared venue owned by the city? Does the cfl team draw big in Vancouver?
there are 4 owners of the Caps, the major owner being greg kerfoot along with steve mallett, and steve nash, and ??- they only own the Caps, but i wouldn't be surprised if they haven't made inquiries about buying the CFL lions also, but the Lions' owner is not ready to sell (but he has said he wants community ownership when he does sell; he lives back east and already owns another CFL franchise)-- the team should draw between 25 000-35 000 and with a new stadium and a winning product, 40 000 is not unreasonable BC Place Stadium is owned by the provincial government and is administered by PAVCO; look for other major events coming to the stadium, such as the CONCACAF womens' qualification for the 2012 Olympics (slated for January), CFL Grey Cup, Mens' WC qualification or friendlies, MLB games (TO and seattle), maybe even an NFL exhibition game (Seahawks)-- its a great facility and should be able to attract a wide variety of events, including major concerts because the acoustics are much improved, and major trade shows to accompany our new Trade Convention Center-- it will be a multi-purpose facility and not just for 40-50 sporting events new - http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/...ovides+kick+start/5450491/story.html#Comments
I think it may be wishful thinking on the Men's WC games. Unless they book games from November to February; otherwise I think they will all be on Toronto.
i'm not sure when the agreement between BMO field, the city of TO and the CSA ends-- as we know, in order to get funding to build BMO field, the CSA made an agreement that TO would be given top priority for games involving the national teams i do think in the future there will be CSA/FIFA games at bc place-- we already have the Womens CONCACAF qualifying games for the 2012 Olympics happening at BC Place in january and really, with the Mens team playing so lousy for so many years, does it really matter that they are in TO? would u pay to see the likes of DeRo and JDG? at least the Womens team offers the chance to see goals and wins-- cant say that about the Mens team
