Prinz Named As San Diego U-T Female Player of the Year

The annual soccer awards were published in today's San Diego Union-Tribune and the winner of Female Player of the Year was a very deserving Birgit Prinz.

Female Player of the Year: Mia Hamm won the FIFA award. But that was a joke........

A better choice: Germany's Birgit Prinz, who led Carolina to a worst-to-first season in the WUSA, finishing with 12 goals and eight assists in just 14 games; led Frankfurt to the European women's club title as well as two German championships; and is a mainstay on the German national team, which has won three straight European Championships.

McDermott Top WUSA Candidate for Coach of the Year

Marcia McDermott was also the top candidate for Coach of the Year from the WUSA who was named by the San Diego Union-Tribune:

That was really unfortunate that Marcia did not win the WUSA 2002 Coach of the Year Award, especially considering that she won't be back coaching again next year.
