"Danke" to our German friend Woody-99 for originally posting this over in the FC&M Forum: While I'm very happy for Birgit and feel like she would be an excellent choice for "FIFA Player of the Year," at the same time I am very disappointed that Sun Wen was voted as one of the finalists and Hege Riise was not. Unfortunately some of the FIFA women's coaches seem to still be very confused about the voting for this award and base their vote on lifetime achievements instead of what the player has actually accomplished during the past year.
God, does FIFA suck or what? Even as a Freedom fan, I hope to hell Prinz gets it. But - I have a feeling it will be Hamm, Sun, and Prinz in that order. What a F&^@#g joke
Sun Wen and Mia Hamm. I see the national team coaches haven't been reading the newspapers this year, either.... Birgit would be a decent choice, but Hege should be a no-brainer for player of the year (unless you're a Philly fan).
hat trick Here is the hat trick article. http://www.carolinacourage.com/332083.html If she doesn't win, it is a crime....
Birgit's Total Number of Goals Prior to the crash Woody-99 posted the total number of goals that Birgit had scored for Germany and FFC Frankfurt this year. I believe that total was 34. If you still have the totals for how many goals Birgit scored for FFC in league play, domestic cup play, and in the UEFA cup, could you please post this information again. "Danke!!"
Hamm gets it This result is a scandal. http://www.fifa.com/events/playergala/MR_A/48852_E.html There is a thread in the USWNT forum. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=521707#post521707
Re: Birgit's Total Number of Goals "Bitteschön" National team goals: 7 Bundesliga goals: 14 German Cup goals: 5 UEFA Cup goals: 8 Unfortunately not enough for POTY
FIFA Awards To Be Discussed On "Inside Soccer" If anyone wants to discuss the FIFA awards today you can call the "Inside Soccer" radio show today. The show is on from 4-6 PM PT (7-9 PM ET) and the main phone number is 858-560-1130. I haven't seen the voting breakdown yet because I haven't been able to open the "pdf" files that I downloaded on my laptop at home. If someone could post that information here in this thread I would really appreciate it. Otherwise I will have to wait until I get to the KSDO studio this afternoon to see the complete voting results.
Re: FIFA Awards To Be Discussed On "Inside Soccer" I assume these are the same folks who gave Sun Wen the "Player of the Century" award a couple of years ago. Oh they tossed Michelle Akers a bone, but that whole scenario was a travesty. Who in the world does the voting in the women's game? This result is simply idiotic.

Good Work Tsunami! Here's the link to an interesting analysis that Tsunami has posted over in the USA Women: News and Analysis Forum: Top 30 Coach's results I think that most of would agree that Hamm should not have received more votes than Pichon and Riise. However, at least when only the votes of the top 30 coaches are taken into consideration, Birgit wins by a comfortable margin and Hege finishes fourth.
Heinrichs' Vote I don't often agree with April Heinrichs, but the way she voted came closest to the way that I would have voted. The only thing I would have changed was the order since I would have given my first place vote to Hege and Birgit would have been a very close second followed by Pichon.
