El Grafico, the most prestigious sports magazine in Argentina was first published in 1919, and it covers many sports but gives priority to football. During the 1970s, it started to rate every player in every league game with a score of 1 to 10, with ten being the best and one being the worst. Professional football in Argentina commenced in 1931 when it was called Liga Argentina de Futbol. Between 1967 and 1985 two championships were introduced in the same year: Metropolitan and National. Since 90/91, the Apertura and Clausura championships have been played, which still stand today. Msioux75 and I will document any information that we could obtain regarding player ratings of the past 40+ years. This may include the best XI or best player of any given year or from a particular tournament. We may also include ratings from any round that we could find, even if we lack the final ratings of a season. We won’t necessarily do this chronologically since we might find more information as time goes by and add it to the list. If anyone has information regarding this topic, please contribute.
We'll hope this thread could be very informative & interesting to posters. I add some info about El Grafico Rankings: - The 1st time El Grafico rated players was in a match played by the great Independiente in late 30s. Scores were put on the photo of the team with the known system of 1-10. Amangzingly the higher scores were for defenders (Coletta, Leguizamon, if i remember well) - The famous section "La Jornada esta aqui" which magazines did the resume for each round and also rating players, was made for the 1st time in mid 60s. - In those years, the monthly resume with the "Team of the Month" and "Team of the Year" was publicated in separate magazine called SPORT.
In 1981, to be eligible a player had to have played at least 25 games in the entire year. So with the Metro and National combined, the Top rated players of 1981 were: 1. Trossero: 7 (26) (Independiente) 2. Maradona: 6,75 (40) (Boca Juniors) 3. Olguin: 6,66 (45) (Independiente) 4. Fillol: 6,65 (43) (River Plate) 5. Mouzo: 6,56 (48) (Boca Juniors) 6. Thanks, mate. Too bad there's a lack of info from the 40s and 50s. But maybe someone knows. Also, thanks to Msioux for the help.

Argentine Rankings 1981 I'm surprised for the higher rating of Enzo Trossero, with fewer matches than other, but very very high class. I also noted that half of top players in 1981 season were defenders (E.Trossero, Olguin, Mouzo, JD.Rocchia, Galvan, Passarella, Tarantini)
Re: Argentine Rankings 1981 Defenders stood out more during that time because of man-marking – which is seldom seen in today’s game. There were personal battles on the field between a marker and an attacker and this detail was scrutinized during that time. In current football, it’s more about the duel between the best forwards from opposite sides and how well they fare in the same match. Msioux, in a few weeks I’ll be busy and unavailable till sometime next year, so I’ll have to put on hold any further info that pertains to this topic. But when you have the time, you can add any further information that you have from now on, since we are not doing this chronologically. Thanks!
Re: Argentine Rankings 1981 I think it would be interesting if any of the Moderators can add the links to the page with the resume of every year, in this very thread, in chronological order. Maybe in the 1st Post?
