So who would win in a fight? Presthus or David Seaman?

Edit: I think Paul Grafer would kicked both of their asses...

    At the same time.

    (speaking of retired goal keepers)

I felt bad for Presthus. His career started brilliantly, and he was once considered a future US#1. Somehow everything has gone wrong for him after he won the championship in 99.

He joined the long list of Keepers who came to Columbus to die. Think of CCS as the Elephant Graveyard of goalkeepers.

Our GK coach is Greg Andrulis, by the way.

And creative midfielders from foreign lands...

He came from the Scum, won our hearts, started to play poorly, now he's gone.

    Still, I'll wish him well.

Frees up more cap space for our recent *cough* acquisitions *cough* and discovery options and "you suck" allocations etc...

Isn't it obvious that they plan to use one of the allocations on Seaman, and that his supposed "retirement" is just preparation for the move across the sea? Or maybe they're looking at Peter Schmiechel. I'm sure there are older keepers out there, but I'm not awake enough yet to think of them.

But did he ever complain when he was benched in favor of Busch? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall him doing so. He could have whined and demanded a trade/transfer. Seems to have been a class act, hope he is successful in whatever he decides to do from now on.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Bruce take him to Mexico City with him for the qualifier back in 2001 (the game in which Rimando was the GK)?

Mr. Archer did you know that Brad Freidel thinks of Greg as the best GK coach he has had?

He was definitely a class act. His career took a dive after he gave up a couple of soft goals in a CONCAF club chamipionship after DC United's 1999 title win; he never seemed to come back after that and took -- unfairly, in my view -- much of the blame for the team's collapse.

IIRC, he was capped in a friendly against Chile.

I know that he has said this.

But considering that his past GK coaches have included Tony DiCicco, I strongly suspect that Brad's being nice.

But even if he isn't, even if he's completley sincere, then query me this:

Greg Andrulis has been a professional first division GK coach since 1996. Name for me the keepers he has developed, who have improved under him and have been successful. (No, Friedel doesn't count - he was good long before Columbus, and didn't really hit his current form until he had been gone for four years)

In fact, I'll helpfully provide you with a list of the candidates:

    Juergen Sommer
    Mark Daugherty
    Tom Presthus
    Jon Busch

I'm willing to be proven wrong here. But not by Brad Friedel being polite to an old freind.

Let's not forget some of the others, Bill, for a trip down memory lane:

    David Winner
    Bo Oshoyni
Matt Napolean (a P-40 keeper (I think), eventually released and now out of soccer)

    You're wrong.

Keller was the starting GK in that game and Rimando was the backup.

    USA - 1-Kasey Keller; 6-David Regis, 12-Jeff Agoos, 16-Carlos Llamosa, 2-Steve Cherundolo; 14- Chris Armas, 9-Joe-Max Moore (14-Cobi Jones, 46), 8-Earnie Stewart, 22-Tony Sanneh; 11-Ante Razov (15-Chris Klein, 82), 19-Jovan Kirovski (20-Brian McBride, 61).

Subs not used: 3-Gregg Berhalter, 24-Nick Rimando, 4-Greg Vanney, 21-Richie Williams.

Jovan over McBride in the First 11? Not one of Bruce's better days!

I saw Presthus do some great saves! As good as other keepers in MLS. I wish him the best!

Nope, I'm right. I didn't think my mind was failing me that much...
