Bush has some serious work to do. He has a dire need to make sure he takes care of the non-legal population here in the US. http://www.washtimes.com/national/20041110-123424-5467r.htm You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.
Absolutely. I can see it now, great news from the Bush camp. "President Bush has created 1.7 million jobs in the grapefruit picking, motel maid, janitor, roofer, meatpacker, farmhand, and busboy sector."
We might as well call this thread "President Bush welcomes GringoTex back into the Republican Party!".
If you make illegal immigration illegal... Or something. Seriously though, not to sound like a broken record, but instead of going nilly willy granting amnesty to any illegal down the street, why not create a proper guest worker policy that allows us to document, track and regulate the flow of migrant workers? They want to come here, our economy needs them, to an extent. How frickin' hard is that? (I imagine it's moderately hard)
This isn't about immigration reform. It's about a guest worker program. The issues are almost completely unrelated.
Gotta take one step at a time. You can read the parts you want, but the article is pretty clear on the issue on the hole. I knew I should have voted for Bush. He really thinks he is Ronald Reagan.
Bush has no intention to overhaul the immigration system. The goal is a guest worker program so that industries can legally hire low-wage workers without even having to pay the SS matching.
You know getting to the USA is the first goal for most people who believe in that dream. Once here, they will have many more manners in which to legalize their status. Even if you don't like the overall intent, this can lead to family reunification and you know they will learn to work the system to their favor. Why not a win-win? Besides, are you still counting on SS?
********, is it Hispanic Heritage month again? If we get our first Latino Att General, who is gonna deport us now?
The Republicans ultimate goal is an airtight border and a revolving door guest worker program by which workers come here are four years without their families and then go back to Mexico. All the cheap labor we want, no burden on our tax system, and employers get out of paying SS matching, benefits, and health insurance.
This has to do w/more than guest worker programs, it has to do w/legalizing illegal immigrants. The title of the article is Bush revives bid to legalize illegal aliens President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration......The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States. The Arizona Republican is one of the Senate's most outspoken supporters of expanding guest-worker programs and has introduced his own bill to offer a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Sh!*, why doesn't every Mexican just jump over the fence if this gets passed. I would. What's the point of applying legally to get in the US if you're in Mexico?
I was talking short term as this can be applied as a de facto amnesty for those already here. I would guess you have a few sisters and brothers-in-law to think short-term and get the wife off your back. What is your official stance on these issues in general? Hint to everyone... Change the rules or not...We're still coming!
Which is why a policy that assesses our labor needs and take in as many as we need would be oh so much more common sensical. Too bad most politicians (and their constituents) only see all or nothing.
"Stop Illegal Immigration" is a catch phrase you see on a ton of candidate's signs during every election out here. I'll vote to "Stop Illegal Immigration" as soon as I can afford to pay $30 to wash my car.
Guest worker program already exists, in many different varieties. H2-B is one program. Is the President getting soft on terrorism now by not checking everyone out before granting citizenship? Mr. President, let's roust Fidel Castro out of Cuba and create more jobs down there so us expats can make some big dollars.
The reason people are coming is because they want a piece of the American dream. While people in this country are sitting on their confortable asses foolishly talking secesion and emigration, the trully needy of the world recognize what a great thing we have here. Really, the day people don't want to come is the day we have a serious problem. My thoughts are, people who are willing to work hard will always help the country and the economy. America has always benefited from the immigrants who came looking for the American dream. And right now, since demographics show that US born Americans are becoming older and more educated, there is going to be a need for people to come to do certain types of jobs. We should welcome these people and we should be thankful that they want to come. But we have to have ways to prevent the terrorists and the criminals from coming. If we concentrate on making it difficult for the later instead of for the former, we can begin to devise an enlightened immigration policy.
Dammit. I keep clicking on that stupid link thinking it contains some sort of content. Why do images work sometimes and not other times?
Good for Senator McCain. Yet another reason why he gets my vote whenever he decides to run. I don't care if he is 100 years old. Here is my plan: Give amnesty to every immigrant who is working and paying taxes. And for those who are getting paid under the table, give them amnesty and prosecute those who won't give them a legal paycheck. Oh, and Arnold, give all people who are working in California a ********ing driver's license.
Which is why I advocate the building of an electrified fence with moats filled with ill-tempered sea bass on both sides.
