If anyone has any questions for Dave, the phone number for "Inside Soccer" is (858)-560-1130. "Inside Soccer" can be heard in the San Diego area on radio station KSDO AM 1130. BTW - Dave Presher briefly spoke to the crowd at last night's Sockers game and several Spirit players were there in attendance including Jen Lalor, Joy Fawcett, Amy Sauer, Kim Pickup, Shauna Rohbock, and Jaime Pagliarulo. Shannon MacMillan was also up in the broadcast booth helping with the television coverage of the match. Most of the Spirit players stayed after the match and autographed the soccer balls that were given away in a promotion last night. Too bad the Sports Arena was less than half full because it was most definitely a great night for San Diego soccer fans.
the Spirit GM was on the show for the first hour. I'll try to get the pertinent parts of that hour transcribed within the next couple of days. Here is the gist of some of what he had to say: He didn't have to think long about trading for Aly. He believes that not many trades have happened because the league GMs and coaches become too emotionally invovled with their team and its players - being new to the Spirit, he didn't have that problem. When asked by Brian Quinn about the paucity of defenders indicating that the team would be using a 3-5-2, He said that he thought that Omid was leaning that way, but didn't rule out a 4-back formation. BQ also asked about the draft of Bush & Branam, two players who had a history of injuries. DP said that they were just too good to pass up - Bush having a lot of speed and the ability to play a wing midfield or 'up top;' and Branam he thought was the best keeper in the draft, mentioning seeing her drop kick balls 70 yards with either foot and being very active and fearless. The first scheduled practice is Sunday at 3pm, and the first preseason game will be Tuesday at 10am. A preseason roster, including jersey numbers, should be out tomorrow. He also mentioned in passing that Omid had gotten his first real look at Torero the evening before, as the players already in camp had a scrimmage there.
I've posted all of the interview here: http://www.spiritedsoccer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=197&sid=1797c74918746d5e6453d9c2c6edfcde
