Good info. Wow. I can't believe that Nelson field Crap Turf is that young. When I've been there I thought it was 8 years old or something.

Just pointing out the E Holden would make $13,000/yr in MLS.

Oh for sure he won't be making 6 figures, there's no doubt on that, but as Don Juego just added, he'll be making a sh!tload more than 13k. I'll find out what he's on later but off the top of my head I imagine he'd be on 40-70k and then you factor in housing provided and maybe a car, maybe not and its not a bad deal. A few years down the line he can come back to MLS and try his luck here and no doubt it'll be more than 13k.
If you're a young player w/ a Euro passport and you get drafted late on, it should be automatic that you try your luck in Europe first in my opinion and thats what I told Euan.

Are all the other rookies in camp, do you guys know?

Yet the min wage is/was $20K in MLS. Of course the new CBA can change all that (hopefully for the better)

Good correction. I forgot about the min salary being raised last year and had recently run into the 2008 salaries. (By way of an excuse.)

So .... I'm just pointing out that E Holden would make 20k in MLS.

My thought was that he would make $30,000. Nonetheless, I still stand by my assertion.

Ultimately though, it's not my decision to make. I don't understand but I don't have to. If he's OK with it, then good for him. I wouldn't do it though.

If the money is roughly the same then playing in Denmark has the advantage of not being stuck in a contract for 4 years. If he plays well for them he has a chance to move to something better, if he played well for Houston he'd have the chance to wait 4 years at a max of $30K a year before trying to move somewhere else. And he would also have the chance to live in Europe for a while, which if nothing else could be a good life experience.

If he goes there and it doesn't work out there's a good chance that his $30K contract with the Dynamo would still be available.

    Re: Preseason is Coming!!!

I agree that we don't know what little holden would make. But Ustrick made 20k last year. Would he not have more value than E Holden? Holden didn't even play in a conference known for soccer, or a school with a respected soccer program.

Do your main assertion -- I really have no clue what lower tier leagues in Europe pay. I'm not trying to argue your point. Just seems that if your point is right (no opinion either way) then the European pay would have to be less than 20k.

    Re: Preseason is Coming!!!

My main assertion (outside of the sarcasm of my initial post) is that he wouldn't make that much more than he would here. I too have no idea what the lower tier leagues play but I can't imagine it's too far from the $50,000 range for a second division Danish team. Throw in the fact he'll be taxed at a hefty rate and his take home isn't that much different (although I wouldn't be surprised to learn that even second division Danish teams provide housing for their players as well as other amenities). Those are a number of assumptions to make, I know, but they seem reasonable and are the basis of my opinion although I acknowledge they might not be correct.

But is (what I assume to be) a modest increase in financial security worth playing in an inferior league that? I mean if it was a first division Danish team or other Scandinavian team that had a history of being a gateway to bigger clubs in Europe, I could understand that but I can't imagine that trait exists with any 2nd division Danish club.

Might be able to make that Austin game given it's pretty close to SA.

Trying to work out what games my wife will let us go to for next season.

It looks like the scrimmage on Saturday, Feb. 6, will be at Robertson instead of the Carl Lewis field.

    Still at 9 am.

Why do you say that? That would make two scrimmages in two days. And I had already planned something else then, I hope you're wrong...

It just dawned on me that I wrote 2/14 rather than the correct Sunday 3/14. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Is Peter Maciel from the Academy or just invited to camp?

Samuel Appiah seems to be showing a lot of good, I wonder how fast this guy is compared to the rest of our speedie guys.

And good on Danny Cruz for having the goal of the day!

    Re: Preseason is Coming!!!

It was really good to see some of the guys back after injuries. Francisco looked really good, I felt bad for him every time he fell and had to roll over to protect his broken hand. Danny played hard and had some great plays, not just shots but movement on the ball. Landín played well and personally I'm tired of the jokes about his weight. He showed some good speed on a few plays. Ching was good too and playing aggressively. Mostly, it was good to see the orange on the field again, it's been a long time since LA. And I sort of felt sorry for those Baptists. Now, let's take it to the Methodists next week.

I missed the match (I had a game)-but I saw in the boxscore that Danny scored-or are you sure he had no shots, because otherwise that's pretty darn impressive to score without taking a shot.

His goal was really sweet, but he had several other shots too I think. About as many as HBU had.
