Just practice players getting told they need another year on Metros Black, I'd guess. Nice to see Christian Sanje there though - can't say I know anything about him as a player, but I met him once last year at a Metros event - he's a good guy. Anyone know if practices in the bubble are open to the public?
John Rusek has been playing with the PDL NJ Stallions the last couple seasons. He played at college at Fairleigh Dickinson, but I think he graduated a few years ago. He was apparently looked at by the Metros as far back as 2000, and was also available in the 2000 draft, but went undrafted. Not sure if he's been playing anywhere other than with the Stallions, which only played for a little over 3 months last summer. The other non-Metro Black invitee (other than Musa) is Daniel Macedo. The only guy by that name I can turn up info about was a coach of a youth club called the Alta Loma Aztecs, in California. Talk about a wide recruiting net!!!
Marco Velez looks really tough. Im scared of him. Hope he can use his size to strengthen our back line. Good type player to have in the box on corners and freekicks. I can see why Bradley picked him.
Interesting note that Velez was NOT discovered by Bradley, but actually OZ. He played with the Metros in a friendly vs Atlanta last year.
Made the team already - bank on it. Club rule says Metro must have an Alvarez on the squad at all times.
Can you explain College protected? I am assuming that these players are competing for a roster spot like all of the other non P-40 or DEV players. Did I miss a category or is it that they are just coming from their last year of college eligibility?
I believe that one of the players that was training with the club that was cut is Adrian Szasz (MetroStars Black forward)
I think college protected refers to players that submitted themselves to the draft, but are not signed to a season's contract with MLS (as opposed to P-40 players). So in essence, these guys are on trial with the Metros, who have the exclusive rights to sign them if they decide to keep them. But if they don't make the squad, they get put on the waivers list and another team can look them over, but they don't get a real MLS contract until a team decides to keep them. That's my presumption, at least.
