This was in the Daily Oklahoman this morning. I figured some of you would be interested in making the short trip, so I thought I'd give you a heads up. http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=1173226 "Soccer enthusiasts in Oklahoma are waiting to see if Edmond will be awarded a Major League Soccer franchise for 2005. In the meantime, they will get a chance to see the product in person this spring. A second MLS exhibition game in Edmond is scheduled April 10. The Kansas City Wizards and the Dallas Burn will play at Central Oklahoma's Wantland Stadium." "It's a much better venue than last time," Webb said. "But it's nowhere near future renovations. Hopefully, the weather is better. I think there will be the atmosphere to do as well and exceed what we did last year. We have more experience on how to put a game like that together, and the stadium is better suited."
April 10? That's the the second week of the regular season. Is this going to be a regular season game?
I wondered the same thing. The local paper is known for typos so we could see a correction tomorrow. I'll watch for it.
Dallas Cup bye week It is an exhibition. The Burn always get the 2nd week of the season off to avoid conflicts with the Dallas Cup.
I'm glad they put an Exhibition the Dallas Cup weekend. IIRC, last year we had several open weekends to start the season (Dallas Cup and rescheduling a Revs match off the top of my head) and I think it contributed to our erratic form early, which contributed to our collapse later on in the season.
I'm hoping this is a road trip that you will be able to do a lot more in the future. Seriously, a Dallas/OKC rivarly would be great. Nothing like a 3 hour drive to harass Burn fans in Frisco.
Re: ROOOAAAAD TRRRIIIIIIIPP! Where: Wantland Stadium, Central Oklahoma in Edmond. When: 1 p.m. April 10. Ticket information: Ticket information still to be announced. http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=1173226
Hi I live in Norman and went to both exhibition games in Oklahoma last year and they both had a great atmosphere 10K in Wantland stadium (Edmond) and 14-15K in Tulsa. The game in Tulsa actually seemed more of a professional atmosphere and a more energetic crown than most MLS games I've been too, alsothe game in OKC was great as well the only problem is the stadium. As much as I would love for their to be an MLS team in OKC Wantland stadium shouldnt be considered as their home. It defentily is minor league...most of the crowd their (which was overflowing) wasnt sitting in seats they were sitting on grass on the side of the field. There are only bleachers on a small part of the stadium. I knwo they are thinking about fixing it up, but really they just need to build a stadium from the ground up with a local ownership before they put a team here or it is going ot make MLS look real minor league.
hey DICKFACE i'm giving you some info be thankfull. I know what they are planning on doing to the stadium I LIVE IN THE AREA but seeing as how you probably havnt even been to the stadium you realy have no idea. There is nothing they can do to that stadium to bring it up to standards. Even if they tore it down and rebuilt it the area of land that it sits on is too small to make it an adequate sized stadium. Plus the location is terrible its too far away. So you and your WUSA logo (which isnt coming back sucker) stop posting please.
lol I dont want to start an argument but it just pisses me off when someone is a complete *#*#*#*#*#head to me for trying to give out some information. Isnt that what this site is about?
dice50, I'm sorry but you're wrong. There's plenty of land in the area. They already havea stadium plan for a stadium that's better than other SSS. It might be far away for people in Norman, but for OKC and Edmond it's fine. Current stadium is minor league. Stadium they're gonna build is going to be superior. Go to the Oklahoma expansion forum to learn more or www.MLSinOKC.com
That is why he has a yellow card and you don't. In case you haven't run into him before, he is one of the rampant "let's piss on everyone because I've got the biggest mouth on BS" guys. I wouldn't worry too much about him. That is just his schtick. Thanks for the info on the stadium. I think quite a few people plan on making the trip like we did last year to Tulsa. AFAIC, if they have a SSS and an owner, and the market is in the top 50 in the US, that is fine by me. Oklahoma City is a bigger venue that Buffalo, NY (according to Neilsen) and they have an NFL team. They are WAY ahead of Rochester. I'd be all for them coming in. My pipe dream for '05 in terms of expansion would be Chivas going to Houston, Oklahoma getting a team, MLS going back to the three division format with those three teams and Chicago - but that isn't going to happen. I'd just like to have ONE team within five hours drive time. If that is Oklahoma, so be it.
Do you guys have (A) potential owners, or (B) ideas on nicknames or the name of the team? I like the logo, btw. For those who haven't, take a look at the MLSinOKC site - and vote for the petition if you are so inclined.
The second part of this story describes how the Cleveland deal looks like it is about to fall apart. http://www.soccertimes.com/mls/2004/feb04.htm Good news for Oklahoma, imo.
There is a significant difference between educating someone and being so insanely offensive you're the online version of Dema Kovalenko. It is just pathetic that you get off on it. All this "my brian/bank account/education/whatever is bigger than yours" crap - whatever. If you have facts that show the guy to be wrong (which apparently you do) , just state them. Do you REALLY have to piss on the guy as you do it? Answer - no. So all that does is reveal your lack of character. Well done.
everyone come one come all and meet the almighty CIVIL ENGINEER who is the number one expert on MLS in the entire world! He knows so much!! He's been to meetings and talked to people for a website, and he likes to get shitfaced and throw batteries at MLS players how AWESOME is this guy. Please. I know all about those plans and those are GREAT plans but the fact is that if they want to spend that much time and money turning wantland stadium which is pretty much a dug out hole in the ground into a true soccer specific stadium, why not spend that money and put the stadium in downtown OKC or as close to it as they can get? Also last I heard OKC has no committed local ownership group only a bunch of people that think that it would be cool to own an MLS team but either dont have the financial resources or the desire to do it. If you know more information please tell us.
