Bigsoccer is a privlege, not a right. Those of us who use it regularly should pay for it, if it's at all within our means. Otherwise one day it might disappear forever and that would be a disaster.
Three main reasons: 1. Hate advertising. Minor. 2. The advertising was creeping into my reading space. This is a major motivation. 3. Like paying for something instead of getting advertising to pay for it. And, Never want bigsoccer to go away. Unforseen benefits: Customizing that little line below your name.
I signed up for the Premium Membership 'cause AFLette foolishly left her credit card sitting on the dining room table again.
I joined to be supportive of BS, and to get to know more people who follow soccer. I went to Dallas yesterday for the Burn/Fire match, and if I'd spent more time on BS, (instead of wasting my time with stuff like, say, reading books and such), I might have met some people and formed friendships. Plus, money is no object to me . . . I'm a PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER. We use 100's to light our smokes in the lounge.
Guys, if you are having a problem with the signup processes, please email help@bigsoccer.com. This is not a problem thread. Thanks.
For as much news, information, analysis, match updates, and general discussion that I get from BS, to say nothing of just helping me get through the day at work, coughing up the dough wasn't really a hard decision. Plus, I hated getting those "we're busy!" messages when I had no other way of getting info on a match as it was happening....
Fiddlestick says it all. I just like paying my own way in life and don't like feeling like I owe somebody something. Plus now Huss has to be nicer to me. I'm a customer.
My reasons 1. I wanted to have superiority over the moderators. 2. I was drunk. 3. Curiosity. 4. Partly as donation. 5. not for avatar, personal forum, nor for the ignore list, but for signature. 6. Big Soccer all the way. Recieving red cards 5 times and being revealed my location by the supermod is just a part of the drama.
I love BS. I think it provides a great service to the soccer community - hell, it's a community all its own. But it's not like tipping a waitress. When you tip a waitress you just add a little to your bill - either way you're paying. But I've never paid for BS; nor have I ever paid for any BBS or any other internet service (other than my ISP). Would BS be as great and as successful as it is today if it was a pay service from the beginning? That being said, thanks Huss (or whoever is pulling the strings) for keeping the bulk of the service free. One suggestion - cut back on the premium features. See, access to avatars and signatures and forum jump menus just isn't worth paying any money, let's not kid ourselves. But plenty of people would be willing to pay just to keep the site going. If you play the charity angle (and not the quid-pro-quo angle), you'd get my $30, and maybe a lot more.
don't quite understand things, do ya? i'd give 'em $30 if i had it to give... present time, i don't i will be giving it to them when i get the chance though
I think most people recognize it's a combination of all of the above. Pay for features and/or support the site. People have their own reasons and we thank them for their support of our site.
I use it. I read it. I remember life before it. I am an addicted. I appreciate it. I need it. No free rides. Pay up folks. It's the right thing to do.
When I get out of college and get a paying job... sure thing, I'll pay up. But for now, I have a hard enough time paying for my meals every day. (But I always seem to get to US games when they're on the mainland!).
I'm living on state loans, and I'd like to keep my money in my pocket until I have some of my own thanks. When I am very rich, and a top TV presenter or something, I'll pay up.
