I've prepared a table of the 30 current Premiership players with 10 international goals. It's in Excel, so I'm afraid it won't be very neat here.

    Goals Matches Strike rate
Paolo Wanchope Costa Rica Manchester City 35 52 0.67
Ioan Ganea Romania Wolverhampton Wanderers 18 27 0.67
    Adrian Mutu Romania Chelsea 11 18 0.61
Milan Baros Czech Republic Liverpool 10 17 0.59
    Alan Shearer England Newcastle 37 63 0.59
    Hernan Crespo Argentina Chelsea 22 40 0.55
    El-Hadji Diouf Senegal Liverpool 14 26 0.54
    Mikael Forrsell Finland Birmingham/Chelsea 11 21 0.52
Marcus Allback Sweden Aston Villa 16 32 0.50
Ruud van Nistelrooy Netherlands Manchester United 14 28 0.50
Patrick Berger Czech Republic Portsmouth 20 43 0.47
    Thierry Henry France Arsenal 25 54 0.46
    Dennis Bergkamp Netherlands Arsenal 36 79 0.46
    Agustin Delgado Ecuador Southampton 22 49 0.45
    Michael Owen England Liverpool 24 54 0.44
Robbie Keane Ireland Tottenham Hotspur 18 41 0.44
    Szilard Nemeth Slovakia Middlesbrough 16 38 0.42
Vladimir Smicer Czech Republic Liverpool 23 60 0.38
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Norway Manchester United 22 58 0.38
    Youri Djorkaeff France Bolton 31 83 0.37
    Sylvain Wiltord France Arsenal 20 55 0.36
    Dwight Yorke Trinidad & Tobago Blackburn 19 55 0.35
Brian McBride United States Fulham 20 66 0.30
    Marian Pahars Estonia Southampton 14 50 0.28
    Ian Harte Ireland Leeds 11 50 0.22
Paul Scholes England Manchester United 13 60 0.22
    Teddy Sheringham England Portsmouth 11 51 0.22
Juan Sebastian Veron Argentina Chelsea 11 53 0.21
    Robert Pires France Arsenal 11 60 0.18
    Jay-Jay Okocha Nigeria Bolton 10 60 0.17

Most of Paolo Wanchope's goals were probably scored against weak opponents, but this is likely to be less true for Ganea, whose position was a surprise for me. Of course, even if all the players had played the same average standard of opponent, their strike rates would not be decisive in determining who was the best player.

There are some well known strikers who do not have 10 international goals. Ignoring the under 25s , the list includes:

    Andy Cole
    Robbie Fowler
    Mark Viduka
    Paolo di Canio
    Kanu
    Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink
    Emile Heskey
    Craig Bellamy
    Les Ferdinand
    Frederic Kanoute
    James Beattie

I'd like to do similar lists for the Italian and Spanish leagues, if anyone can suggest where I could get the date from.

Stern John should be in there as well, he has scored about 50 international goals.

Well the BBC have him on 1 goal! RSSSF says he had 44 up to 10 Sep 03.

Most of these goals were scored against lowly ranked oppostion. The all time international goalscorers chart is heavy with players from the weaker federations.

Yeah I know but 44 in 57 is not bad going even against poor opposition.
