For impact on a team's results / individual performances this season since joining:

    1st - Blackburn - Jon Stead.

    2nd - Bolton - Kevin Davies

    3rd - Birmingham - Mikael Forssell

    Honourable mentions:

    * Portsmouth - Dejan Stefanovich
    * Charlton - Paolo Di Canio

Aren't we forgeting the obvious choice here?

Tim Howard - Manchester United. Stepped in and won EPL goal keeper of the year.

    Discussion over.

He looks like a dangerous player, sure enough. It's amazing he's only just scored his first league goal for Arsenal. You'd think with as many goals as they have been scoring he'd have done it earlier though.

I reckon it's Jon Stead by a mile. Coming from Division 3 to the premiership and making an impact like he has at Blackburn scoring important match winning goals and putting in great performanes.

And the worst signing Helder Postiga.

    Duff at Chelsea
    Forsell on loan at Brum
    Amdy Faye at Portsmouth
    Kevin Davies at Bolton
and I`d add Sorensen for my team Villa.

Jon Stead was a great signing. Kevin Philips was definitely not too shabby either. His form has improved this year. I know I'll catch a lot of flak b/d of the price, but I think Cristiano Ronaldo was a good signing. Mario Jardel would definitely be up there with the worst signings.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Reyes should prove to be great signings eventually.

For this season (in no particular order):
    Mikael Forsell
    Kevin Davies
    Kevin Phillips
    Jon Stead
    Tim Howard
    Thomas Sorensen

Not sure Portsmouth made any truly outstanding signing, they've all come together as a team in the last few weeks.

Yakubu signed last year. But you're right about Lua Lua. I didn't put him there because he started the year with Newcastle and it looks like he might be recalled for the last couple of games.

The signing of the season was Scott Parker by Chelsea. Not for what he did for Chelsea, but for the nose-dive that Charlton took after his departure.

I think DiCanio was huge for Charlton this season.

3-way tie between Tim Howard, Brian McBride, and Carlos Bocanegra. ;)

While Howard may turn out to be the top signing in time, right now you can't even mention him in the same breath with Jon Stead. He may have saved Blackburn's premiership status, so he paid for himself many, many times over right there.

And the notion of Scott Parker is an interesting one, RobtheAggie. But I don't think that's the criteria the thread starter was looking for. ;)

    BLACKPOOL
    Discussion continues.

Dosent the EPL team of the year get picked from votes taken from players half way threw the season? Niemi was the best goalkeeper in the prem by miles this year!

First, I'm not one of those Yanks who deifies Tim Howard, but he has been very good for United. With all that's on the line, Ferguson would not have had him starting all but 6-8 games just for marketing purposes.

Second, it doesn't really matter when the votes take place as long as it's consistent year to year. It's their peers that vote for them and we'd be hard pressed to argue with them objectively. They're the ones on the pitch with them.

Third, what is your personal criteria for best keeper. Couple of weeks ago I read somebody talking about goals per game avg. That's c**p!! For the most part, the keeper is only as good as his defense. I could put my 12 year old in the nets if I had a team that could reduce the number of quality shots taken on goal significantly. Goals/game only applies to the defense as a whole. Put Peter Schmichel (sp?) behind a poor defense and his goals/game would be quite high. Percentage of save/shots on target would be better, but still involve the quality of shots taken.
