Hello, yes I think the list was fine up to week 26 but then there was an error in the numbering as I missed an issue - I blame the stress of moving house :)

I have five sets of Match Facts missing although @Pavlin Arnaudov has found one of them. Good work!

The ones marked as 'Missing' are the dates on the cover of the magazine. Ratings for February 9 to 15 would be in the first missing issue as they usually go up to the previous Saturday.

    1985/86
    Missing
    22 Feb 1986 [week 27]
    1-29 Mar [wks 28-32]
5 Apr [wk 33 – no Match Facts]
    Missing 12 Apr [wk 34]
    19 Apr [wk 35]
    Missing 26 Apr & 3 May [wks 36 & 37]
    10 & 17 May [wks 38 & 39]
    Missing 24 May [wk 40]

This is the real week 38 - this is everything I have for the season now!!

I've made a start now on compiling the full set of Match magazine ratings using a spreadsheet, and when I've finished @vyncy will provide me with his own template to use and 1st Division 1983/84 will be able to go into the collection of DBS Calcio data available on the new site at some point.

I thought since the teams have 42 games then it could be a good idea to split things into six sections (in effect splitting each half of the season into three parts). Here is a summary for the first of those (all teams have played 7 games at this point; I'm showing ratings by club, ordered by league position as things stood after those games, with top 4 rated players with over 50% of their team's games played listed for each club, but all players with over 50% and with an average of 7 or above included too - some clubs have more than 4):

West Ham United: Trevor Brooking 7.17 (6 games), Alvin Martin, Geoff Pike and David Swindlehurst 7.00 (7 games)
Manchester United: Bryan Robson 7.33 (6 games), Ray Wilkins 7.29 (7 games), Arnold Muhren 7.00 (7 games), Frank Stapleton 6.86 (7 games)

Continuing the 1983/84 Match magazine ratings summary now, with the 2nd part (ratings for the period covering the second set of 7 scheduled games: note though that at this point Southampton have played 13 games, and Norwich have played 15 - Leicester have one 'extra' game vs Norwich but also one postponed game with Southampton so are on the same number of games played as the rest of the teams):

Re: the players of Man Utd, Forest, QPR and Tottenham, I thought it could be a nice extra bonus at this point to also show players down to an average of 6.50 or more (with 6 or more games still), in addition to those quoted above from my earlier post, as those are the clubs there might be the most interest in from the regular posters and contributors (considering Oldham Athletic weren't yet in the top division in this time period!), but if I'd done things the way I had for other seasons normally then I wouldn't have listed Hazell earlier (given his average goes below 7 with Leicester games - it goes to 6.73 so as you can see he was in a way the top-rated 'QPR player' at that point but in another way not the top-rated player who had played for QPR overall)

    Man Utd:
    Frank Stapleton - 6.93 (14 games)
    Arthur Graham - 6.86 (14 games)
    Mike Duxbury - 6.82 (11 games)
    Arnold Muhren - 6.82 (11 games)
    Arthur Albiston - 6.57 (14 games)

    Nottm Forest:
    Colin Todd - 6.77 (13 games)
    Ian Bowyer - 6.71 (14 games)
    Garry Birtles - 6.60 (10 games)
    Peter Davenport - 6.58 (12 games)
    Steve Hodge - 6.50 (14 games)
    Frans Thijssen - 6.50 (6 games)
    Colin Walsh - 6.50 (10 games)

    QPR:
    Ian Stewart - 6.92 (12 games)
    Clive Allen - 6.91 (11 games)
    Peter Hucker - 6.86 (14 games)
    Terry Fenwick - 6.85 (13 games)
    John Gregory - 6.77 (13 games)
    Simon Stainrod - 6.64 (14 games)
    Gary Micklewhite - 6.50 (14 games)
    Gary Waddock - 6.50 (14 games)

    Tottenham:
    Gary Stevens - 6.92 (13 games)
    Danny Thomas - 6.83 (6 games)
    Mark Falco - 6.79 (14 games)
    Chris Hughton - 6.75 (12 games)
    Gary Mabbutt - 6.67 (12 games)
    Gary Brooke - 6.57 (7 games)
    Ray Clemence - 6.57 (14 games)
    Graham Roberts - 6.57 (14 games)

I have all players ratings available on my spreadsheet though of course, so in theory can answer any other queries about any other particular players at that point, when I next log on again (tomorrow probably).

At this point I can do a 1983/84 Match ratings mid-season summary post, corresponding to exactly the halfway point (a few games earlier than the point Match's own half-term report was based on I think, so the numbers shouldn't be matching the ones published in that in any case) and covering basically all of the 1983 games and none of the 1984 ones (but Leicester and Norwich have played 22 games and Stoke and QPR have played 20 games):
(11 games minimum; averages of 6.60 or more included, so it's the one quite extensive mid-season 1983/84 average ratings summary we have, given I could only find something from The People from April at the earliest)

Maybe an unnecessary correction (to post about I mean) but that should say 7.16 (19 games) for Wigley at that point.

Forest are the one team that I've got to the end of the season for at the moment, and so I can say re: Fairclough that actually his overall average stays above 7 and he ends with over 30 games too so he could be a candidate for Match's XI at the end I'm guessing, although he was correctly not listed in their half-term report because he didn't meet their appearances criteria at that point (end of January - he was one game short on 14 as per that cut-off point). It shows the benefit of compiling the ratings in full for all players for the whole season anyway, as when I had done the exercise before adding in some other players that stood out with high ratings to the ones listed in the half-term report I had not included Fairclough even though he was a Forest player.

I would say for this season btw @Paul W that although I haven't felt the need to do a full check on it, it looks like the figures shown in the half-term report are mostly immaculately accurate (to 2 decimal places but always rounded down). I had already spotted that John Chiedozie should have been included in it when I did that exercise originally (so I already had him ending in 'Match's XI' from the numbers I had calculated at that point also), and the other thing seems to be that they mis-calculated Alvin Martin's 'half-term' average, showing it somewhat too high (maybe forgetting to update it, or doing a mis-calculation?), but otherwise it might only be minor things (I had Dave Bennett of Coventry on one less point than they were showing in effect, to move his average to 7.00 from 7.05, I noticed, and it seems that Tony Coton the Birmingham goalkeeper could have been included, just having a high enough average to make it among the lower rated goalies on that list they made. It's the fact that their calculations are generally very accurate this season at that point that allowed me (already when I did the previous exercise) to understand that the Half-Term report was calculated 'as at the end of January' anyway, in between the true mid-way point of the season and the point it was published (during February after some more ratings had been published).
