Specifically the Islanders? The Islanders are the only USL team in the tournament. And why does it seem like they are better? Small sample size. And there are several threads for the whole USL vs. MLS debate.

EVERYONE rapes NY. The fact that they scored at all is amazing, especially with Angel out. They could be playing a u13 team and lose. DC didn't play all that well and W Connection seemed like a fairly competent club. DC is also alive in the USOC (they play the finals soon), they are close to the top in the East of the MLS in addition to the CCL. Perhaps they were not fielding all their starters? Or a little tired? Fact is they made it through. I think there is a precedent as to MLS clubs not doing well in the CCL. That is something that can change from year to year. I hope the Crew can put a little of that to rest. We shall see.
So here's how well each country did in the prelim round, teams advancing/teams in round: Mexico: 2/2 US: 1/2 El Salvador: 0/1 Guatemala: 0/1 Puerto Rico: 1/1 T&T: 2/2 Costa Rica: 0/2 Honduras: 1/2 Panama: 1/2 Canada: 0/1 Things that stick out: *Mexico is clearly a class above everyone else *MLS underwhelms again *Caribbean got all three teams through *Costa Rica goes 0 for 2, I guess their league isn't as strong as some suggest, it's just Saprissa and Alajuela
