Nothing official according to the article, but Vasquez has tons of MLS experience and was Klinsman's assistant at Bayern.

I"m not too sure about Preki on the sidelines for the nats. I love the guy, but I think his lack of composure really rubs off on his team over time. They have always been a force under his watch, but I think he's got to lose a little bit of that fire and be a better example to his players. Hopefully that aspect of having him as a coach would be a non-issue were he an assistant. HIs passion is great, but you've got to have some control on the sidelines.

If CUSA is trying to redefine itself and play the latin brand of football, then Vasquez makes sense. Been around, coached, knows MLS and has the added benefit to CUSA of being Mexican. Could be very probable.

Preki didn't seem happy being on the bench of Chivas all year, even when they jumped out to such a great start at the beginning of the year. I know it's silly, but to me he looked like he'd rather be anywhere else but the Chivas bench. Probably just needs a fresh start someplace else and now it looks like he's going to get it.

This guy needs to be in the black and red. DC needs a shot in the arm and this is the very man to provide it.

Preki has never won either a playoff game or an Open Cup game as a coach. Be careful what you ask for, those who ... well ... ask for things.

The only thing I will add to this is that just like a player the situation may not have been right for Preki. When Jaqua came to LA he was a disaster. Goes to Seattle and does quite well. It is one of this things i think were it will benefit both parties. What do we know he maybe the coach to turnaround New York or DC. Not that DC was that bad, but like us it is expected they be in the playoffs.

Re: Preki out, Martin Vasquez in at Chivas USA?

Preki is a hot head Euro boring coach.... His MLS experience can´t get him to produce the proper results... DC for example is a club that at this point has a standard and should enforce it, If some one is coming to coach in DC it should be some one who has won at least 1 title in MLS if abroad like for example a Diego Cagna, an argentine coach accustomed to dealing with tight budgets and small squad BUT plays the DC brand of attractive soccer then you give him a chance... But recycling MLS coaches for the sake of that boring argument: we need someone who understands MLS, then all you get is more of the same in a different market...

So the only people in MLS you'd take as DCU coach are Arena, Yallop, Kinnear and Schmid because they've won MLS Cup (twice, in each case)?

You wouldn't take a good assistant like John Spencer or Robin Fraser? You wouldn't take an established coach with a succesful track record like Steve Nicol or Dave Sarachan?

I think that's gonna limit your choices, but to each his own, I guess.

Along the same lines, I think he would make a much better Nats assistant (or other high-level assistant) than club manager because of this. As a high-level assistant, his enthusiasm/lack-of-composure isn't as much of a negative. When Bob Bradley is your head coach, I think Preki would be a great yang to his yin.

The DC gig would be attractive to most prospective coaches. They finished with the same number of points this past season as RSL, and look where they are. They have some good young talent like Pontius, Wallace, Quaranta is only 25 somehow, etc. This team needs to find a few more goals (or figure out what's wrong with Emilio), get a quality keeper......and it could compete for MLS Cup next year. (Of course, there's so much parity in this league. Most clubs probably feel that way). I'm sure DC will be fielding plenty of resumes.

Re: Preki out, Martin Vasquez in at Chivas USA?

Spencer is unproven and Fraser also.... What makes these guys experts???? Sarachan, maybe but does not play the kind of soccer DC likes... Nicol is the ANTI DC mentality totally.. No way they would ever sign him.

I think DC is a team that has set it´s own standards and yes very few MLS coaches fit into DC style... Schmid is the only coach I can think of that would fit in nicely... Maybe Arena, if he was not under contract, ONE DAY will get another round at DC United...

Harkes, Williams are home players that will one day coach DC...

Look obviously am not trying to say ONLY MLS winning coaches can coach DC, but most who have NOT won a title are not very spectacular to say the least.. Given the clubs mentality I think DC should look a little more out side the box this time... Instead of recycling the same 5 coaches cause "they know MLS"...
