He pretty muched adopted that style after Brazil thrashed Portugal 6-2, the deco-maniche-tiago midfield was so vunerable to counter attack, and they got raped.

So he adopted your(brazils) new style of playing.

Well that depends on what you mean about portugal not having alot in midfield?

is it true they concede possession more then past portugal teams? yes.

but if you mean it as it isnt creative, thats false. Deco plays alot of killer passes and can ghost by players at ease, meireles isnt the most talented of individuals but he has a big engine on him and makes runs into the box or across the pitch to create space for others alot and allows deco/ronaldo/nani etc to cheat a little offensivly.

The World Cup is only 8 days away, the excitement is building:D

    Try again.

The form of Deco and Meireles will be the most important determinants of how well Portugal does on this WC.

Edit - I imagine that when you saw Inter concede possession to Barcelona, it was because their midfield was not crucial? LOL! Or that "most of the action" was in the wings and not in Cambiasso (Meireles), Sneijder (Deco), etc? In both cases the wings are important but in no way is not the midfield crucial for a team who plays like this.

Yes. I agree with this. Cote d'Ivoire will probably bully itself on the ball.

No. That is not what I meant. I was only talking about possession and playing the ball. The midfield might give passes, but they will be mostly directed to the flanks and not focused on midfield one-twos and forward runs. As a Chelsea fan I am not a Deco believer... like most Chelsea fans I can't wait to offload the guy.

Haven't seen that at all in Chelsea this season. He seems to have lost it... But well... we'll see if he plays better for the national side.

    ---

All in all palynka is off on this one, but has the audacity to call other people ignorant.

Here is my predictions assuming Queiroz gets some Mourinho syndrome.

    Portugal 7 points
    Brazil 6 points
    Ivory Coast 4 points
    N Korea 0 points

And if Queiroz keeps up his qualifying tactics

    Brazil 7 points
    Portugal 5 points
    Ivory Coast 4 points
    N Korea 1 points

and if shit hits the fan.

    Brazil 9 points
    Ivory Coast 6 points
    Portugal 3 points
    N Korea 0 points

portugal can't get 7 points in your first scenario bc that would be 2 wins and a draw. and north korea there have 0 points.

I'd tend to agree except for one wrinkle that gets overlooked. Ivory Coast's Achilles heel will be their new coach. SGE is a team chemistry holocaust in the form of an old, beaten down man...

Spot on. As a Portuguese fan, learning that SGE took the job was the best news in months. My prediction:

    Brazil 7 points
    Portugal 7 points
    Ivory Coast 1 point
    North Korea 1 point

Brazil finish first on goal average.

Just watching a pedestrain Cote d'Ivoire overpowering and dominating a much more active Japanese side... man... this group is one killer group.

I must say the Ivorians look good... lets see if Eriksson can work on the defence however. Oh... and Drogba is on fire.

at the end of the first half the defence looks much improved, they did not allow one chance on goal, (big improvement for CIV). Drogba off with possible injury :(

Japan looking much improved in the second half and after 45 minutes actually found a way through to get a shot on goal (not that they scored). Cote d'ivoire is experimenting with formation and look a bit worse because of it.

In the first game we had Yaya Toure in the back. In the second Didier Zokora. I must say the defence looks way better with them at the back than with nominal defenders like Bamba or Gohouri...

Drogba hurt his groin and thigh. I think he should be fine, but was take off for precautionery measures. Hopefully.

I just hope Cote d'Ivoire has another gear other than this pedestrain pace they have played the last two games.

Tough loss of IVC. I wonder if he will still play though. Doesn't need his arm to score :D

I'm hoping they can put a big cast on and he will be able to play. He's fun to watch.
