The 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage draw has been made in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday to determine the group stage ties. Bayern vs Atlético, Paris vs Manchester United, Juventus vs Barcelona, which means CR7 vs Messi, are among the super-matches of the CL Group Stage. Here our predictions.

Below, we have listed the 8 groups with the football teams and the related chance of moving to the very final stage of the competition. And, of course, our predictions.

    Group A: Bayern 40%, Atlético Madrid 40%, Salzburg 10%, Lokomotiv Moskva 10%

Both Bayern (current holder of the trophy) and Atletico are super-favorite since they are both well-equipped team with great players. We predict that it will be an easy task for the German and Spanish teams to reach the first round. Hard to find which team will finish in third position.

    Group B: Real Madrid 40%, Shakhtar Donetsk 20%, Internazionale 30%, Mönchengladbach 10%

Real Madrid is definitely the favorite to finish first in this group. Internazionale is a powerhouse with a weak defense (5 goals in 2 Serie A matches). Quite uncommon for Italian teams, but enough to move on to a further stage. Shakhtar can continue its path in the UEFA Europa League.

    Group C: Porto 25%, Manchester City 40%, Olympiacos 10%, Marseille 25%

The second-most unpredictable group, except for Man City chances. Guardiola’s team will easily move to the first round stage but with which team? Porto and Marseille seem to be at the same level. Playing Olympiacos in Greece is always an hard task, but this time the stadium may be behind closed doors with no Greek supporters. Whoever does not make it, will have great chances to bring home the UEFA Europa League.

    Group D: Liverpool 50%, Ajax 20%, Atalanta 30%, Midtjylland 0%

This group will be decided by the direct matches Atalanta vs Ajax. Easy life for Liverpool. Atalanta seems to have a more solid team than Ajax which sold the best players over the last two years. We do not want to be mean but 0 chances for Midtjylland.

    Group E: Sevilla 40%, Chelsea 40%, Krasnodar 0%, Rennes 20%

We are perfectly aware that Rennes may surprise everybody. They are doing well in Ligue 1 so far. But we still believe that Sevilla (UEFA Europa League past edition winner) and Chelsea are on a different level. No chances for Krasnodar.

    Group F: Zenit 20%, Dortmund 40%, Lazio 20%, Club Brugge 20%

This is a mess. Ok, Borussia Dortmund will make it, no doubts. Problem is who will finish in the second place? Lazio starts as favorite but we know that, for whatever reason, they do not perform well in European competitions. Both Zenit and Brugge can take advantage of that, maybe snatching one or three points against Dortmund at home?

    Group G: Juventus 45%, Barcelona 45%, Dynamo Kyiv 5%, Ferencváros 5%

Easy-peasy! Juventus and Barca, yes. Who first? No idea. Juventus has a new young coach (Andrea Pirlo) and Barcelona seems to have serious internal problems which may affect the performances. Let’s just enjoy CR7 vs Messi. Who cares about the rest?

    Group H: Paris 35%, Manchester United 30%, Leipzig 30%, İstanbul Başakşehir 5%

Ouch, it looks easy but it is not! I won’t underestimate Leipzig as well as the ability of complicating things of PSG and Man Utd. From this group a shocking result may come out… We also predict that the third team may have easy life in Europa League.

One of the outstanding questions out there is what will the Premier League do? There is speculation that they could dock Man City points next year, putting them at the bottom of the table for the first few games of the 2020/21 season. (If they got docked 10 points they would have to go 4-0 in order to dig out the hole right away.) Pep had (laughingly) joked that Man City would fire him if they did not win Champions League. It is now more likely he will quit if the UEFA ruling is upheld.
