Ok. As we are less than a week away, I suggest that it is now time to put predictions about the season in writing. We can come back at a later date and see who wins the "crystal ball." Here's mine: While I do sincerely hope I'm wrong on most of these, I fear this year is going to be another disaster. 1. If Convey is not the playing in the middle, I don't believe we'll make the play-offs. With Convey in the middle I think we can grab at least 3rd place in the East. With Etcheverry, I think we're looking at 5th. 2. Last year we gave up 40 goals. I believe we will give up more than 45 this year. Put me down as someone who thinks are defense has regressed from last year. 3. Our PK percenatge will improve dramatically. Last year, I believe we were 1 for 4. It can't get much worse... 4. Sadly, Jaime Moreno will score at least 15 goals for the scum.
prediction dc will win 1'st in the east and go all the way, jamie moreno will get hurt in ny/nj, and nick rimando will register 10 shut outs
i will continue to whine and moan that United looks bad and will do poorly. instead they will do great, make me look like a moron and force me to eat my words. besides, nothing can ruin my season, i get to see earnie f-ing stewart play every frigging week!!!!!!!!!!
Some how, some way, United will squeak into the final playoff spot. This will likely be more because some other team like San Jose, the Metros or Chicago implodes, but regadless, United will sneak in.... and quickly be eliminated by LA or Columbus in Marco's last game (barring a tribute). And, sadly, given the last 3 years, this will be seen as progress!
Convey wins league MVP with 12 goals and 15 assists. Tino, Earnie, and Esky combine for another 25 goals and we win MLS Cup.
We'll eek into the playoff on the last day of the season, then lose to the Galaxy in the first round.
Prediction: Someone, having celebrated before the match, will tip over in 134/135 during an afternoon match causing mass hysteria as beer is seen spilling from a waxed paper cup.
"They were rubbish last year, they were rubbish the year before that, and I don't care if they are 1st in the division, they will still be f&*ning rubish." -paraphrased from the movie Fever Pitch I think that we will start off looking like crap, Marco will pull something and be forced out for a good portion of the year. Bobby will run the show and run it well shutting up all the critics. He will then sign with a Dutch team and leave us as soon as the season ends, but not before leading us to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Someone on this board will whine and gripe about the team before the season is over. Y'all can just give me the crystal ball now.
Sometime before the tenth game, Marco will complain about the officiating and mention that he is exploring offers to play in China, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE.
I predict we'll trash our team greater than any Metro fans could ever hope to do I predict about 15,000 "I hate Diablo" posts I predict 3,000 "Ray must go" comments And then we make the playoffs.......
United will struggle mightily during the first two months of the season, after which they will split their games for the middle third and finish the season with a long winning/not beaten streak. The combined increased competition and struggling Chicago, New Jersey, and New England clubs will keep us somewhat close but still in last place throughout the season. The end of the season success will get us into the playoffs in either the 7th or 8th spot, where we will be considered a very hot team and a decent contender for the Cup. We lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs. The mass turn around during the middle of the season returns DC to being considered a class organization. Ray Hudson is awarded coach of the year for his ability to turn the team around and get so many new faces to play as one. Because of the poor start to the season, no league awards are awarded to United for their season play, although Convey and Stewart both represent DC United in the MLS all-star game. Another effect to the poor start causes D.C. to average their lowest attendance average ever.
We will start slow and be the team everyone else does not want to face in the playoffs. By the end of the season we'll look like this: Eski Q1 Stewart Q2/Hristo Convey Olson Dema Petke/Prideaux Nelson Namoff/Reyes Rimando I only appear to be waffling about the back line ;> Yabo
Improved On paper I think we have improved but results on the field during scrimages indicate we still suck. Hopefully the pieces will start to fit and by the end of the season we will make the play-offs. Basically we make the play-offs or say goodbye the Etch and Ray.
i predict that csc will instigate and average of 2.3 incidents per game. i predict the barra tailgate will average 1 keg, 4 cases of beer and 3 dead capn's per game i predict begbie will get the first ejection of the year but thamlin will edge him out for season honors i predict chico drives home from 0 games this year i predict dave brother will continue to be the only dcu fan who drinks bud anywhere but rfk i predict we sweep the scum i predict that a record number of dcu fans are at the swamp this year
Some team with the initials DCU wins the illustrious Atlantic Cup - again. Someone with the initials MAE plays his last game in a DC United uniform. Someone with the initials RH makes at least one panic player move 2/3 of the way into the season. Lastly, some team with the initials DCU shoots and scores in palindromes.
11-12-7 = 40 pts and probably good enough for 2nd in the East.. Let's remember now that the playoff format has changed once again and we will not face any of the Western teams until MLS Cup.. Leading goalscorer: Earnie Stewart with 10 Leading assist man: Etcheverry with 15 Rimando with 7 shutouts...
Many tears will be shed when we watch John Harkes for the last time Ben Olsen will give 110% Many Korean and Salvadoran fans will be in attendance when we play LA K
