Philadelphia Chicago Columbus Houston DC Toronto Kansas City Montreal New England New York RSL Portland Dallas LA Colorado Vancover Chivas San Jose Seattle The above list has nothing to do with how I think they'll finish and everything to do with my personal "like/dislike" ranking of each team. (though I should probably pick Chicago over Philly so I can actually see the conference final in person) /at least I'm honest
Why, what have they done in the off season to suggest they're better than the other teams in the western conference?
Is this topic the same as picking the 10 clubs in the playoffs because there's already a thread for that one https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1899117
if you don't know, then why do you feel qualified to comment? and i still stand by my comment. i don't see portland making playoffs

Of course I know. It's not hard to find out. I was looking for his explanation on why he though San Jose was going to win the western conference. I've watched SJ play in Portland. I'm not impressed. Look what Vancouver and to a lesser extent, the Revs have done to revamp their roster. SJ hasn't made anywhere near enough moves.
I think most of us believe the West is better than the East again. I think that the top of the West may be a bit more predictable than the East. I think LA, Seattle, and RSL are gonna continue to be the elite of the league. But from then nothing would shock me in the West. I think Vancouver and Portland are much improved and they could easily make the playoffs. SJ and Dallas I think are also improved. The race for the final playoff spots in the West will be really interesting. I think everyone rightly has Chivas towards the bottom of the table and I don't think Colorado has made many moves to keep up with the rest of the teams. I really think the East is completely wide open. Maybe Montreal will struggle as most expansion teams do and I think New England may not have the talent or the depth to compete over the long haul. But after that so many teams are evenly matched. Not much separates the Eastern teams. So nothing would really shock me.
The title of the thread is to predict the conference standings and you simply list teams based on your like/dislike of them, you are not being honest at all. In fact, your list is completely pointless.
Group think. Look at a lot of these lists. They're very similar to the final standings last year, and very similar to each other as well. People are more easily influenced than they think. They see an article on MLSsoccer.com condemning Philly for the "poor" trade with Vancouver and they start to form an opinion in their mind. Then every year, there's a team that "surprises" people, but if you look at the moves they made in the off-season and the personnel they actually have, it's rarely all that surprising. IMO, the surprise teams this year will be LA: They won't dominate like they did last year Philly: They'll actually be really good, loss of Le Toux won't matter Revs: They won't be the worst team in the league Portland: They haven't improved as much as advertised
To be fair, all lists at this point in the year are completely pointless. Nothing to base the teams on besides last season and personal preferences. No one really knows how teams' additions and changes will affect their performance until the season is underway.
I didn't do that, but I think Philly is in for a tough year. Listen, I think Torres can be a very good player in this league, but they're betting the house on him. Nowak gutted the veteran leadership within the team and he's going with youth. In any other sport/league that's called rebuilding. In MLS...who knows, but it's tough to really see who will step up for them when they go through a rough stretch. Califf is a good man to anchor the backline, but Albright has been injury prone forever, and those are the two guys Philly will rely on for veteran leadership. That's my reason for keeping them out. Just my opinion. Nowak's definitely taking a big gamble here.
