perfect excuse to introduce a mandatory 2-3 minute stoppage so they can put in commercial breaks

Interesting article. only 9 teams have used all 3 GK in a world cup.

I specifically remember Holland with Krul who came in for penalties against Costa Rica...

    * France in 1978 (Baratelli, Bertrand-Demanes & Dropsy)
    * Belgium in 1982 (Custers, Munaron & Pfaff)
    * Czechoslovakia in 1982 (Hruska, Seman & Stromsik)
    * Greece in 1994 (Atmatzidis, Karkamanis & Minou)
    * Netherlands in 2014 (Cillessen, Krul & Vorm)
    * Portugal in 2014 (Beto, Eduardo, Rui Patricio)
    * Saudi Arabia in 2018 (Almayouf, Almosailem & Alowais)
    * Tunisia in 2018 (Ben Mustapha, Hassen, Mathlouthi)
    * Brazil in 2022 (Alisson, Ederson & Weverton)

The Holland one does not really count in my opinion cause one of the dudes just came in to stop penalties in the shootout.

He did stop several PKs IIRC, so you could argue that he actually played a key role. Furthermore, he was logged in the match report, wasn't he?

120'+1' Substitution, Netherlands. Tim Krul replaces Jasper Cillessen.

    All that is true.
But it is just a different scenario than playing 90 minutes or coming in due to injuries. Very unique.

Point of the article just illustrates the low probability of teams playing all 3 GK in a single tournament. The Netherlands situation was most memorable to me bc it actually paid off for that penalty shoot out.

I still think having 3 GK is a waste of a roster spot in the big picture

But Colombia is in a funky era where 2 let alone 3 international ready GK are hard to find

Montero is playing at a decent level in the best league of the three. I think he deserves a chance at the starting spot. I know it is difficult though since Vargas has pretty much been the number one keeper during official matches this cycle when healthy.

a serious team doesnt call players based on entitlement but performance.
Ospina has not been very good for quite a while now and is taking a spot from a younger GK

I hear you, but a serious team finds a reason to get their most experienced keepers on a squad though. His form is not good but the alternatives are not much better. This is a World Cup and he has played in that tournament so it will not be new or scary to him.
Who would you rather call? Mier?

like you said - we just don’t have the depth that’s ready for international competition. We have a couple of guys who play in Europe but they have minimal match fitness as of this date.

end of day - the likelihood of Ospina playing in the World Cup in minimal but I think he can still provide good mentorship to the rest of team.

It’s not like Ospina is going to sit in the corner and be a mute…

Cuadrado was our 3rd GK in 2018..... that is an odd choice.... man we were even in a worst spot than now in that position but again a 8 year younger Vargas/Ospina (2014 Gks as well) > now

It’s kinda humorous when you look back at a previous World Cup roster for any team and wonder how ____ was on the final roster and how ____ was excluded.

It is being reported that the Croatia match will be televised on Fox Sports 2 in the USA.
No info on the France match yet.

    Yup.

Right now Telemundo has an open TV slot listing for "FΓΊtbol masculino amistosos internacionales " at the around the same time slot as the France match. I hope that is the game they show.
    We shall see.

Pedro Pardo is starting again vs Forest in Europa league. Think he is more of a 2030 Roster guy especially if he moves to a better league after this cup. Feel the U23(next cycle) guys will be Puerta, Yaser or Gomez. Solis, Pardo and Duran(giant idiot) just not in good enough leagues.

RCN is reporting that in addition to Villa another surprise is Camilo Duran who was rumored earlier in the month and was on the prelist.

They also say Cabal has been called as a "surprise" but that seems less of a surprise to me. Our LB situation is up on the air for anyone.

I know but that is what RCN is saying. But as we all know Colombian media does not always get things right.

If he is on the roster, as I always say... ...that shows you how bad our LB situation is.
