The football team is one of the country's oldest, most well known, and best performing clubs, with the unique distinction of having played continuously in top tier of the German football league system since the end of World War I; the team has never been relegated from any top-flight league and is the only team that has always played in the Bundesligasince its foundation in 1963.In the mid-1970s, HSV began a brilliant run that saw them capture numerous honours. In 1976 they won the DFB-Pokaland followed up the next year with a Cup Winners' Cup. They took their first Bundesliga championship in 1979, fell just two points short behind Bayern Munich in 1980, and then won consecutive championships in 1982 and 1983, led by national star Felix Magath. In 1983 they won the European Cup with a 1–0 win over Juventus, followed by another German Cup in 1987. 1960 Friendly Hamburger S.V. 2-3 FC Barcelona1961 European FC Barcelona 1-0 Hamburger S.V.1961 European Hamburger S.V. 2-1 FC Barcelona1961 European FC Barcelona 1-0 Hamburger S.V.1962 Friendly FC Barcelona 5-1 Hamburger S.V.1963 Cup Win.Cup FC Barcelona 4-4 Hamburger S.V.1963 Cup Win.Cup Hamburger S.V. 0-0 FC Barcelona1963 Cup Win.Cup Hamburger S.V. 3-2 FC Barcelona1968 Friendly FC Barcelona 2- 3 Hamburger S.V.1969 Tr.C.Palma FC Barcelona 2-2 Hamburger S.V.1974 Friendly Hamburger S.V. 3-2 FC Barcelona Squad ListFrom the first team Messi, Mascherano, Alves, Alexis, Adriano, Afellay, Pinto, Bartra, Muniesa and Dos Santos From the B Team (Oier, Sergio Gómez, Sergi Roberto, Lobato, Ilie, Rafinha, Kiko y Planas) más Deulofeu, Patric, Balliu, Espinosa and Joan Àngel Roman Missing PlayersThe European Champions, Puyol, Villa y Fontàs, Thiago and Cuenca ... so who do we have to lineup with? afellay---------messi-----------alexis ----------JDS----------s.roberto----- adriano-------masch------------dani ---------muniesa----bartra----------- -----------------pinto------------------
Sanchez - Messi - Affelay S. Roberto - JDS - Rafinha Adriano-Masch-Bartra-Alves ------------Pinto El Mundo Deportivo suggests something similar but with Affelay playing midfield: Possible 1st line-up Vilanova's Barça: Pinto - Alves Mascherano Bartra Adriano - Afellay Jonathan S.Roberto - Kiko/Rafinha Messi Alexis I think that seeing how JDS can play at DM is one of the big questions of this preseason, and one reason that JDS decided not to play for Mexico at the Olympics. Many of us see this as a make or break season for him at Barca. Perhaps that is too harsh but with Thiago's ascendance last year, Cesc's signing with Barca, Iniesta and Xavi still here, talented youngsters coming up behind him, he will need to show that he can back up Busquets sooner than later as attacking midfield is oh so crowded.
It barely even feels like there was a break. Whoa. Out of curiosity why is Messi in the lineup? Can't we give the lad a longer break? I assume he has been itching to play though.
Yeah, the off season is incredibly short. I'm sure Messi is itching to play. Hopefully Messi and other starters only play a half. I also suspect that the club gets a higher appearance fee when Messi plays. While I am glad we are mostly staying in Europe this offseason, we are covering thousands of miles to play so many friendlies, it all seems a bit much. 14350 kilometers of traveling!

anyone know which network will air the game in the U.S? I was pretty sure ESPN but I don't see it in their schedule
Prolly Messi himself wants to play, there's also a clause that if Messi doesn't play Barca would had to compensate Hamburg with around 1.5M.
Barcastuff saying Messi out of Hamburg match (due to getting injured in practice, something with calf). Dunno how serious, probably not very. Medical tests today, but apparently it's just a bruise or something.
barcastuff: Barcelona sources have confirmed the club will get 30% less money for Hamburg friendly because Messi won't play: 0.84M instead of 1.2M [md] Ouch. Still not worth it, though. Excited for the TITOTEAM debut in just 2 hours!
Man you gotta be a big star when your footie team plays a friendly and your absence makes it that the opponent doesn't have to pay your the team almost 400k, which they would've paid just to see jog around friendly footballing. As compared with me, amateur footballing, paying my club to play. Lol.
Just saw that and it is like I predicted yesterday, we get less $ if Messi doesn't play; quite possibly we'd have gotten even more had we had the Spanish NT players back (had they not gone to final) and playing. The nice thing is we get to see Sanchez or Rafinha in the false 9 role. So long as Messi's injury is not bad the ones to feel sorry for are the ticket buyers in Hamburg.
...and if you're a huge Messi fan in Hamburg, it's not like it's impossible to travel and watch him play. Messi plays about two hour flight away about weekly, and even closer annually in CL.
But some of those fans paid for tickets to today's match, expecting to see Messi. Now they're not. It's a disappointment to them. Sorry, can't resist this, seeing our opponent for today: I don't think eating up Hamburger SV today will make us Wimpy, though. Btw, Barça may be in pre-season, but VEB is in mid-season form already with the match threads. Great opener.
Barcelona line-up (official): Pinto - Alves Mascherano Bartra Adriano - Jonathan Espinosa S.Roberto - Afellay Alexis Deulofeu
Obv gonna be disappointed, but they did not pay money to Hamburg vs. Messi. They decided to spend money on a ticket to a match between Hamburg vs Barca, and no one promised Messi to feature as you can't guarantee those kinda things. It's a "risky deal" everytime you pay football tickets in a way that you know exactly the cost, but not exactly what you get in return. Sometimes you spend big on travel and tickets and accommodation etc just to get your heart broken - like for example those Netherlands fans who travelled to Johannesburg just for the final.
Well, obviously that "risk" that is always there was written into the contract for this friendly, and probably all pre-season games. I wonder how many players in the world get these special clauses written for them. Game on!
Hope we can quickly move past the discontent Alves expressed over the club not denying transfer rumors this summer. A goal or two helps...
Did Pinto just roll the ball out behind his back?!?! Hey, he's a new dad, must be a little giddy today.
Bitte eine Link??? Awesome that Alves has already scored in pre-season. Always a good thing when he can get it going.
