Retro Night? Awesome! It can only mean they'll trot out their old Wizards (or even Wiz, no, really, they were the Wiz) jerseys.
Nobody beats the Wiz! I remember one of the sportscenter talking heads making a crack about needing antibiotics after a Wiz - Burn match-up back in the day.
Watched the MTL 1 - 3 SKC match: MTL was the far better team in the first half. Could have had multiple goals. Right side of the SKC defense was in deep trouble as MTL got in down that side several times. MTL's five-man midfield was overwhelming SKC's four-man midfield. Second half was more even then SKC got two penalty kicks: #1 was a legitimate handball but kinda fluky as the ball caromed inside the box after a corner; #2 was another corner kick, arnoud let his mark (sunny saed) get in front of him with Arnaud's arms around him. Saed flopped to the ground and got the call even though the ball flew well overhead. Third goal was late as MTL pressed forward. SKC was not back to their early season strong form despite the nice road result. MTL struggles defensively but their MF looked good. SKC is no longer inpenetrable. They can be beat just like last year. The 1-3 scoreline was very flattering.
-Hall Andre-Boswell-Cameron-Ashe ---Moffat Garcia---Davis ---Camargo -Mac---Bruin Prepare for the counter game. We really need Geoff healthy for this one. If Carr were healthy, that'd be an even bigger boost since we could move Oscar to AM and Carr at RM (since Luis is MIA). I'd be really worried if Geoff is held out of this one too. KC is tricky and I'm not sure I want a slowish, relatively untested Boswell/Taylor combo trying to keep their forwards in check. Bruin posting up and Mac getting behind them.
man-they had great prices during the day. Too bad they went the way of Crazy Eddie's BTW-since it's Retro night.... paging Doctor Khumalo.
After watching SKC fail to handle five-man MFs well I'd stick with it. Doesn't Dom generally stick with what is working?
I read this somewhere years ago: "The Dallas Burn vs. the Kansas City Wiz, a urologist's dream matchup." At any rate, I could see us getting smashed in this one. But how did KC lose 4-0 to the Union a week ago? So if we play a tight defensive game like we did against the Fire, maybe we could nick one. Honestly though, I'd be happy with a draw in KC. Need the three points though.
Anyone else on board to bring on Watson for Camargo? Don't know what the issue is but as others have said, Camargo has been MIA for a while. Watson at least brings some energy and pace.
Weather forecast for KC at 7 pm on Saturday: 100F 32% humidity Chance of a thunderstorm Should feel just like home.
Is Watson healthy? If we go with a 433 again I think the winner of Watson vs. Camargo should be, neither, should be Boniek. Why not Kandji Ching Bruin Davis Moffat Boniek Creavalle Taylor Cameron Hainault Hall Boz for Cameron if unavailable
speaking of Preki-did you see Chingy's last PK moved him past Preki on the all time MLS goals list? EDIT-tied Preki, did not move past him.
My favorite Wiz, Digital Takawira: Whose first club coincidentally was Dynamos FC of Zimbabwe. He had an interesting goal celebration which I can't seem to find at the moment. He also helped my fantasy team win a MLS Cup '96 T-Shirt from one of those online contests. Fantasy MLS I think it was. I had the most points in a week. I don't even remember if he scored or not though. Anyhoo, they're Sporting KC now and wear solid baby blue shirts. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I've actually been very pleased with Camargo's play in the 4-5-1 of the last two games. He has combined very well with Boniek. He lets Davis get forward. I think he got caught too high on the PHU goal, and he had a poor turnover in MF against the Fire. Other than that he has been solid. He handles the ball out of tight-pressure very well, he positions himself pretty well, he moves the ball from side-to-side well, and looks forward when it is on. I like it. I think the new 4-5-1 will let him and Watson both play at the same time and will be very good. Not sure if Dom will do that but I'm not near as down on Camargo as most of you guys.
i tend to agree with you, but i'm still looking for that spark from him. a sense of urgency. and for him to lose that spare tire. i know he was hurt in the offseason and was unfit, but holy frijoles dude; it's half way through the season, get in shape! he absolutely wilts towards the end and forces Dom to take him out. his lack of hustle forces Davis to come to the middle to pick up the slack, throwing us out of whack at times. right now, for me, he is just average. and we need more that just average to progress. good news, he has plenty of (potential) upside. unlike Ashe. or El Battalion relax "i live to be angry" guy, im just joking!
