In our final game before the opening of the new stadium, the Dynamo will travel to Jersey to take on Red Bull.

Currently Red Bull is sitting in 3rd in the East with 16 points over 9 games (5-3-1) while Dynamo sit at 7th with 8 points over 6 games (2-2-2). Red Bull is coming off of a 1-0 win at Galaxy on Saturday, so they have a short turn around on coast-to-coast matches.

There were many people who targeted between 7 and 10 points in these opening 7 road games. We have met this target and have the opportunity to exceed it with a victory. The win would mean that we would have over 1.5 points per game played, which is a very strong number for the road. A tie, would also result in better than 1.25 points per game. As you may recall, last season we had 15 road points all season for a ratio of 0.88 per game. Seattle had the best ratio in the league as they recorded 32 points for a ratio of 1.88 (this was actually better than they did at home); next best was Galaxy who had 26 points for a ratio of just over 1.5.

    Good summary Art.

I see this as important game in the Opportunity category.
    Opportunity to:
    - Have great momentum coming home;
    - Cement a very successful road-trip;
    - Re-establish some defensive mojo that has been squandered thru some loose play; and
    - Keep some goal-scoring mojo going.

    05/16/09 NYR 1-1 HOU

So that's 0-3-3 with 4 goals scored and 9 allowed. We're a little better since they moved to the new stadium.

Somewhat off topic. I recently swtched to DISH. My channel guide is showing that the game will be on Channel 412-28 FoxSW Alt.

I have the regional sports package, so in theory I should get the game. But I don't want to be caught out at 6:30 on Wednesday night and have it not show up. Can any DISH subscribers offer advice about whether or not this channel guide is reliable? Thanks

On the Dynamo schedule the game is listed at 6:00, I don't know if it's wrong or if that includes some pregame and the actual kick-off is 6:30, or if it's correct.

    Great summary Art and DonJuego

I was also thinking about how it will effect NY since they played in LA on Saturday and then have a Wednesday game in NY...

Well, the title also says 6:30, I just don't want somebody to tune in at 6:30 and find out they've missed the first 30 minutes of the game.

Title has been updated to 6pm. Not sure where I got the 6:30, but I would like to think that I got it from somewhere.

    CORRECTED.

Dynamo all-time @ NY Red Bulls:

    06/10/06 NYR 1-1 HOU
    04/21/07 NYR 1-0 HOU
    08/24/08 NYR 3-0 HOU
    05/16/09 NYR 1-1 HOU
11/01/09 NYR 1-1 HOU, MLS playoffs
    -----------Red Bull Arena opens-----
    06/02/10 NYR 2-1 HOU
    04/02/11 NYR 1-1 HOU

So that's 0-3-4 overall with 4 goals scored and 9 allowed. We're a little better since they moved to the new stadium.

If there ever was a time for an EARLY SEASON MUST WIN, this is the game.

NYRB played vs. LAG Saturday and with a eleven day layoff and NYRB without Thierry Henry, this is the game the Dynamo must go all out to get three points.

I think if we get the first goal, NYRB will start pointing fingers at each other and the floodgates will open for more goals for us.

That being said, the streak without a win ENDS at 4 and the Dynamo win 2-0 on a Bobby Boswell and Will Bruin goals.

Remember Dynamo are going to be playing 6 games in the month of May.
I would not play Ching or Bruin for NY. Get Carr, Mac, Weaver. They have to play again on Saturday against DC United. I predict Tie or unfortunately a lost. But, after that... Full Steam Ahead!!! coming back here into Houston vs. DC BOOM WIN!!!

There are only 5 league games this month. Are you counting the U.S. Open Cup game or the Valencia game as part of the six?

    Wed, 5/9 - @ NYR
    Sat, 5/12 - DCU
    Tue, 5/15 - POR
    Sat, 5/19 - @NER
    Sat, 5/26 - LAG
    Tue, 5/29- U.S. Open Cup, 3rd round
    Thu, 5/31 - Valencia

I was talking about How many games the Dynamo have to play weather its regular season or not Dynamo still have to play... that would be 6 games, Right? To answer your question that would include Valencia's game. Yes, I know that doesn't count, but they still have to play.

Wait a minute? Is the Dynamo team acutally going to play in the US. Open Cup?
I looked at the schedule and there is nothing that mentions that the Dynamo are going to play in the US Open Cup.
    http://www.houstondynamo.com/schedule
If that's true that the Dynamo will not play in the US Open Cup, that means only 6 Games that the Dynamo will actually play.

See the US Open Cup thread. We play in the 3rd round and do not know who we will play. When it becomes clear it will be officially posted. Short answer: yes we are.

All MLS teams are in the U.S. Open Cup this year. They enter in the 3rd round which will be played on May 29. Our opponent and the location of the game will not be known for a while. The 1st round of the USOC is on May 15 and the second on May 22. Our opponent will be determined on May 22.

We do not know if the Dynamo will be in the draw to host or not. The new USOC procedure means that if both teams in a particular match-up submit an offer to host then their is a draw to determine the location. So even if the Dynamo do offer to host we still might not get it.

I think a win is very feasible-and in the new era of MLS, this might be a must win as NY's backline is in shambles and Henry is dinged up. I hate to use "must win", especially this early, but every point counts and every time you catch a team at a disadvantage (injuries, coming home from the opposite coast for a mid week fixture, etc) you have to make the most of the opportunity, especially since we butchered the chance we had at a point last time out. NY looks very ripe for the picking.

Damn-would have been nice to get a point from the scum and then play them two weeks later at our place and get 3 there. Talk about a swing.

I don't think we can look past any more matches and start focusing on those matches in September and October. These early season, in conference matches are huge.

I have a hunch that CCL qualifiers will eventually go to Conference winners as that's only way to make it fair (see Arena's argument about the SS winner with an unbalanced schedule).

I think you can take down the poll. Dynamo will win!! News stories say Craig Waibel will be in the house! If De Ro gets out of hand, Waibs goes on wearing an Adam Moffatt jersey and a fake beard and makes De Ro an offer he can't refuse, while Danny Cruz wets himself on the far sideline!

    Dynamo 5 - DC United 0
