MLS Cup media guide indicates that there is a pre-match concert in the Soccer Celebration area. For the benefit of my sons, could somebody tell me 1)is this going to be "Puddle of Mud" 2) as a 40 year old, should I leave them at the "P.O.M." concert and find something else to do? Also, since Alexi Lalas is scheduled to play soccer on Sunday, does anybody know who will perform the National Anthem?? Scott
Scott: I'd heard POM were doing the half-time... but no serious confirmation either way. They're more adult-contemporary rock... we're not talking Metallica or Iron Maiden here. Their one hit has been Blurry... not terrible... and their latest single is She Hates Me (sometimes with a certain "proFanity" thrown in). Sound is a little Nirvana/Pearl Jam-ish. Worth a listen, but if they're pre-game, I don't expect to make an especially early entrance just to catch the show. Hey.. and they're still better than Christina Aguilera, who performed at our last hosting.
like, a lot, nirvana-ish. they played one of their vids at the last playoff match. the melody even sounded like a nirv-rip-off. at least its not christina aguillera again, eh?
Thanks for the information on Puddle of Mud. I guess I'm not with it anymore. I used to be with it, I think somebody changed what it was some time back. Any word on if a 'big-name' is singing the National Anthem...maybe we bring little Joey Mac back to sing God Bless America................maybe not! Scott
No prob on the POM stuff... look I'm hip, I can abbreviate Puddle of Mud (or is it Mudd) to POM, not to be confused with POCM, of course. So if they're pre-game... who's half-time? Not to distract from the game itself, but I'm somewhat of a self-professed music guy, so I'm always a little interested to find out what hot new nobody would be playing. On that topic: glad to see they started using the sound system for music other than U2 Beautiful day during the game again in the last series (not during play, like Columbus stadium does). There had been a rumor that a group of "soccer moms" got together and asked the backoffice to stop playing Machinehead by Bush and Crazy Train (Ozzy) because, well... like... ya know.... he's a satanist and all!
Oh... And I had to ask around the office to make sure I knew who Puddle was... remember seeing the video once, but I guess we're all growing old together! cheers
Video for "She Hates Me" has been played at Gillette - twice I think - during half time. With that proFanity edited out several times.
