Well ... after a thoroughly disappointing loss to TFC at home on Saturday, the Revs head up to Montreal on Wednesday for a game against the expansion Impact.

Bengtson is out for this one, as he's headed out. We have signed a new player, but no idea if he'll play.

I'm pretty excited about this one, as none of the Impact's games have been broadcast on US TV, and I've been wanting to see them play for a while. I'm wondering if Nesta plays this week, as he didn't feature in their game vs. Columbus.

Jose Moreno is the X Factor in this one - he should be recovered enough to play some minutes. I'd rather have him start and then sub him out if he can't go further, instead of starting with Brettschneider and being required to sub him out at some point if when/he's ineffective an entire half.

Agreed, looking forward to seeing Montreal and what they look like. Moreno needs to start playing or he needs to go.

From a Revs perspective we better hope Nesta isn't fit yet

I'd like to see Guy get a run out in this one if he is ready to go. maybe something like
    .......................................Reis
    Alston............McCarthy.......Soares............Tierney
    ....................Benny.........Simms
    Sene.....................Nguyen...................Guy
    ...........................Moreno

Why do people on here like Guy so much? He's pretty average, and good for a backup at multiple positions, but I don't get why lots of people are always calling for him to start (or maybe it's just firstshirt in every thread I'm not sure, I just feel like I've seen it a ton this season). Rowe is at least as good as him and has way more upside, and while not as athletic Cardenas has more skill and works as hard as Guy too. I just think Guy isthe perfect late game sub/utility type of player.

I think Rowe gets the start over Guy, but we may see Ryan as a substitute for Simms.

hard to guess the one-up until we see the injury report -- McCarthy will probably be held out (hoping it's just one game) and didn't someone here say that Heaps said Shalrie has a swollen knee? If those two are out, we might see:

    . . . Moreon . . Sene
    Nguyen . . Sims. . Benny . . Rowe
    Tienry. . Barnes . . Soares . . Alston
    . . . . Reis . . . .

From Saturday, I wonder if Heaps used Shalrie over Barnes because he was planning to bring in Shalrie later, along with Bengston, and he didn't want to leave himself without a third sub option. So better to send Shalrie in at CB, knowing he can move him up (as he did) if we need more attack. So while it looks grim for Barnes that he was by-passed when McCarthy went down, he may yet get the start Wednesday.

The Revs plays 3 games in 8 days, thus we need to play both Rowe and Guy this game. IMO I think it's the right time to sit Sene because he 's not very effective recently or play Sene @ 70' for either Rowe or Guy. Also Lechner 's in for Alston because we 'll need Alston @ SKC when there will be a lot more physical and speed to play against SKC. So
    .......................................Reis
    Lechner............McCarthy.......Soares............Tierney
    ....................Benny.........Simms
    Rowe.....................Nguyen...................Guy
    ...........................Moreno

Well since he hasn't been available to play for about a month or so I can tell you its not always me calling for him. For me, Cardenas, with all his flair does not really seem to result in anything. I think he is maybe a step above Nyassi but just bareley. I think Guy and Rowe are pretty much bookends. Both can play multiple positions, neither are that fast but both are technically sound. Guy has not played a while, has been off the injury list now for a few days and the Revs have 3 games in 11 days. this is the perfect time to bring Guy in and let him get back into the mix

Has disciplinary committee decided on Shalrie's handball yet?

    Suspension? or Not?

Don't know if it's good or bad that he plays anyways...

Why would he be suspended for that? It's a yellow card, which he received. Maybe they might think about fining him but a suspension would be beyond stupid for a yellow card offense.

Yeah, it would only be a suspendable offense if he caused harm to another player. Him being an idiot doesn't merit anything beyond that yellow card. I actually haven't seen the replay yet since the game ended - could he have just headed in that cross or was it out of reach?

It zipped past his head before he could make contact, though he tried (or at least simulated heading it). It was too high and/or in front of him to get a head on it.

The Toronto keeper was attempting to punch the ball clear. I'm just speculating, but if Joseph went full in for a header, he might have harmed himself and the keeper.

If that's the case, then I fully take back the "idiot" comment - it may have just been a defensive reaction.

Anyway last Injury Report prior to the Impact game - Shalrie isn't on it despite the knee swelling. Smart play IMO is to hold out McCarthy and use Barnes or Lechner at CB, while keeping Shalrie in the sub role he had in the NYRB game.

PROBABLE: Zak Boggs (DL - R ankle sprain), Jose Moreno (R ankle sprain)

    QUESTIONABLE: Stephen McCarthy (concussive-like symptoms)

OUT: Alec Purdie (L ankle sprain)

Regarding the Impact I also read Nesta is nowhere near match fitness from a cardio/endurance standpoint so he won't play.

Oh I don't know...defensive player stops a goal with his hands, Red card and Penalty...Offensive player tries to score goal with his hand...yellow and goal called back? Seems a bit skewed. Don't know what the actual rule is..Refs?

The ball was by him before he could head it and he jumped towards the net and was in no danger of harming the keeper, if he could have put a head on it. It was a unsportsmanlike handball, yellow card, that's all.

You can watch the replay here: http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-07-14-ne-v-tor/highlights?videoID=192407

I'm not a ref but that's the rule/law. The only time there's a red on a handball is on one which prevents a goal/direct goal scoring opportunity.

No sense in throwing McCarthy out there if his head hurts. Barnes should have something to prove, I still like Reis over Shuttleworth and want to see Guy get some PT. Should be the easiest game of the three game set, save Rowe for the next two

I would be highly surprised if he didn't. I would just like to see Guy get a run. Sorry if you disagree,,,no big deal
