The 2018 Pre-season continues Rapids vs San Jose Earthquakes @ The Dick, Saturday (May 13), 2pm. TV is Unimas Posting this early because I'm sick of talking about the Vancouver game. I don't normally make predictions for pre-season games, however I noticed this game is on Unimas. The Rapids usually exceed expectations in Spanish, so I am going to predict a 1-1 tie. Perhaps an own goal? I can't make it due to kids events; but for those who go, at least the weather should be nice.
I am wondering if we should go back to the "Ex" in the title. Because, you know, the only thing different between last season's great performance and this season's dumpster fire is our thread titles......
All it takes is a little bit of focus to make junky teams crumble. We are the team you pencil in a W for when you look at the schedule. San Jose finds that focus and puts the Rapids away in the 80th minute. Some people will claim it was close but I'm calling it now. 1-0 SJE and its never in doubt.
This week's over/under for Rapids' shots on goal: 3 Prediction. Rapids score first, bring enthusiasm and hope into the Dick then give up 2 late, ugly goals. 2-1 loss. It seems my pessimism knows no bounds. Prove me wrong, boys!
Apathy. Total apathy. That's all I can manage for this match. Wondo is a great player. Unlike any Colorado Wooden Spoons player, he actually knows how to finish. Will anybody even bother to mark him? Or will they just watch him score his 5th, 6th, 7th season goals? The Wooden Spoons have 17 shots on target. TOTAL. In 8 games. 2 1/8 shots on goal per game. San Jose? They have 47 shots on goal in 10 games. What's the over/under for their current total being higher than the final Wooden Spoons season total? Oh, and 46% of their shots are on frame. Their top four goal scorers have 10 goals in 18 shots on frame. While the Wooden Spoons have been racking up LLLLL, San Jose has been getting results: DDLWW. They've had more points in their last 2 matches than the Wooden Spoons have all season. I'd much rather go see the Rockies take on the Dodgers.
Wondo has 7 fewer goals for the 'Quakes than the combined tally of the top 3 Rapids all-time goal scorers. So...yeah...
In about half as many seasons (9+ versus 17, though to be fair we know Casey missed a big chunk with injury and Cummings spent his first couple of years in the reserves)
PRO's crew for the match: REF: MARCOS DEOLIVEIRA* AR1: Jeffrey Greeson AR2: Mike Rottersman 4TH: Baldomero Toledo *Oh the anagram possibilities here! BTW, PRO had a great story on the ref substitutions last week. (Yes, there were two, including our match.)
Last match out the Rapids had some solid possession, but didn't create any quality shots. It will be somewhat of a change if they can simply get some on target this game. But like others on this board I'm heavy with pessimism. So like last weekend the score will stay nil - nil till sometime after the 70th minute when SI finds the back of the net once again sending fans home early knowing the Rapids have almost no chance of scoring the equalizer.
I think the question we should all be asking is: Who will get the red card this week? My money is on Howard getting the red for violent contact on Watts after a typical "oops" leads to a SJ goal.
I really don't want to see a formation with Doyle in the CAM role and Gordon up top. It just didn't seem to lead to many smart passes in the final third. Right now the two that might be effective in the CAM roe are Gashi or Saeid.
1-0 loss. Sadly this lineup just isn't good enough to compete, especially down two of the more talented players (Sjoberg, Boateng) on the roster. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2017/05/rapids-host-ex-clash.html
