The second last game before the break. The Crew will have played midweek at San Jose while the Rapids will have the full week to recover/prepare.

    Keys:
    1. Limit Crew free kick scoring opportunites
    2. Control the ball and make the Crew run, early and often
    3. Finsh, Finish, Finish

Barring injury I expect the same line up as last week. Although I keep wondering when Clark will crack the starting line up again.

    Related Questions:
Can the Rapids organization piggy back on whatever woeful coverage local media starts giving the World Cup?
The weather is looking good, will the fans respond?

Injuries As of June 1, 2010

    COLORADO RAPIDS
Out: DF Kosuke Kimura (L ankle stress fracture); MF Ciaran O'Brien (L hip sprain); FW Ross Schunk (R ACL tear)
    Doubtful: None
    Questionable: None
Probable: MF Jamie Smith (R hamstring strain); DF Julien Baudet (L knee sprain)

I am hopeful this is the week Clark gets the start and plays a majority of the game. Thompson has simply failed to produce IMO. I wonder if this is the week J. Smith finally gets a few minutes, as he was upgraded to Probable.

Hopefully, with the combination of altitude and the Crew playing midweek, the Rapids will finally break the scoring flood gates and pull out a W against a top team.

FC Denver has a nice report on Smith and Lopez...

Appears both are actually training at full speed. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Smith get into the game. Wells and Clark have left themselves vulnerable.

Thanks for link, FC Denver always has good stuff. I'll repeat what I said there
I think the current formation, with Cummings laying back a bit, has provide more creative possession and chances then the one used the first few games. I think the lack of scoring is due almost exclusively to poor finishing. Clark, the other non-starter on the depth chart fits nicely on the left. But how do Smith and Lopez fit in. Perhaps Lopez for Mehdi. He won't have the end to end mobility of Mehdi (maybe that's a good thing?) but he may provide better offensive minded possession. The first question though is he starting or coming off the bench. That answer is pretty obvious on Saturday, but what about down the road?

As for Smith, he doesn't replace Omar. Maybe as another option for the left or does inserting Smith require a change in formation?

I feel strongly that the current formation/philosophy is moving the team in the right direction. My thoughts about getting Smith and Lopez in matches would be to consider playing Lopez up top as a sub for Casey. Obviously he is a very different style of player, but he does have the skills to play there. Smith could be a sub for Cummings - at this time it would only happen if the Rapids are not in need of a goal. It seems that Amerikwa is doing this now, but Smith could be the sub.

As for Baullochy, I would keep him starting and in his current role. He is maturing into it and has done something well in many of the matches since the change in formations. Last match it was his corner kicks and his run late in the match where he had an okay scoring chance.

I'm a Crew fan and am going to be in Denver this weekend, so I'll definitely be at this game. Any suggestions on food/etc?

I've been to DSG in the past (Rapids 2-1 win over FCD game back in 2008 when I was out in Denver). Anything going on before/after the game?

Just looking for something to do before game time.

    Thanks.

2 hours before gametime the Supporters groups have an open tailgate in the East VIP lot (just south of the Cantina). Hot dogs, soda, and a keg provided by the groups, as well as whatever food people bring as well. Feel free to stop by.

with as long as it's taken Clark to get into the starting lineup i doubt either Lopez or Smith will be starting anytime soon. I've been super critical of Mehdi but he's been playing better each game, he'll keep starting no question. the only starter i see being replaced is Thompson for Clark. Thompson is much more effective coming on late in game with his speed and hustle against tired defenses.

i think the possibly of getting Lopez or Smith in the game really depends on the game, whether we're winning or losing. if we're winning they both probably stay on the bench (or come on for Cummings / Casey). if we're losing they'd come on for Larentowicz or one of the fullbacks.

Couldn't agree with you more here. If G. Smith could simply transpose the 60th minute sub and start Clark, I could see it being very successful.

1-1 draw, goal by Conor Casey. I don't think we can keep Columbus off the scoreboard, and I don't think our offense can score more than one goal. A draw seems to be the way to go. With Columbus' midweek game and playing at altitude I wouldn't be shocked to see us sneak a winner late, but a draw feels more likely. I think Casey will continue his resurgence in play and get on the scoreboard again.

I think it is about time for Omar to start breaking out again with a goal or two before the break. He has a good history against the Crew. Also time for Colin to get a goal.

We need another big game frome Casey. We may not score much but we also don't give up many goals. A win today would give us a huge confidence boost and some great momentum.

speaking of the boards maybe later when people at the match can report in this can be answered but have they narrowed the pitch some more? ON television it sure looks like it. To me the extra width and resulting extra area to cover would be an additive advantage to the altitude in our favor.

Not a bad first half from the Rapids. Woud like to see a few more of those opportunities resulting on shots and at that on frame.

Wow what a bunch of crap. Mast has a ball kicked right at him and he gets the red card for "almost" pushing a guy. Even we lose because of this crap that is gay.
