Good Lord that was frustrating to watch. Once again, lots of possession in the first half with only a goal to show for it. We forced the Strikers keeper to make just two saves. Just TWO! What is the point of having the most shots in the league if they are not on target? Washington had some nice runs forward but then started the Rowdies' collapse with that stupid shove in the box to give them the PK. Coach Hill called it a 'soft' pk after the game. BS, it was a stupid mistake by Washington. How does the ref not call that PK? Ambersley is a waste up top. He does look good when he pulls back into midfield, but he is not a target man. Muholland looks like he is back to form. Still would be nice to see a Shane Hill-less midfield, but, oh well.
1:16:46 Video Part 2 number #16 for FTL should be redcarded and fined/ game suspension for leaving the pitch and taunting the opposing fans. http://www.nasl.com/index.php?id=488&getGameID=176
Agree with WSW on this one. I spoke to the Striker managment after the game. Uncalled for action. He should go celebrate with his HOME fans not leave the field and walk into the public area to jeer supporters who drove 200 miles to watch the game. Three game suspension and fine. Or the league can expect that player to be "respected" in-kind when they arrive at away ties.
It was another great time with the Striker Likers and they were gracious host at their tailgate as always. Hope to see them at Crowley's again before the 4th of July game. But what does the annoncer mean,"Its a rivalry game and you HAVE to celebrate in the face of the opposing fans"? Is this a hispanic thing that us Anglos don't learn when they teach sportsmanship in our schools? I sure hope the league will put out some rules in their press guide so we know that we are suppose to ridicule the opposing players. UNLIKE the USSF fairplay rules and AO guidance. Strikers FO, thier annoncers and players must not follow USSF guidlines. I hope Mark Anderson (#10) and Lance Laing (#16) understand how this is not what is expected in the US. We'll be looking forward to see them walk right out in front of the mob July 4th.
Also I don't understand why they put us right next too sexually frustrated posers with field side seats, I would of rather sat next too the Ultras with security between us.
I am going to echo what E and Mr. Thompson have said in this thread. First, I want to give thanks to the Striker Likers for being hospitable guests. It was my brothers first time to the fort and they were nice and gracious with us. Much appreciated and respected. I do not know what got into Anderson and Laing coming over to our side to celebrate his goal. Completely moronic IMO. Why even taunt the other fans? And why even leave the field and go almost into the stands to do it? These players are supposed to be professional. Oh well. Let's see them do that in front of Ralph's Mob. The game was frustrating to watch. Oh man it was. I think the secrets out on Ambersely. I really feel why he did so well last year is bc he came out of nowhere with very little known about him. Fast forward a year later and every team almost double teams him. It is frustrating. Now I know it's not his fault bc he is a good player, but teams are scheming more against him. Time to put him into a new, different capacity. Mad props to the mob mgmt for the road trip. Good times had by all. I just wish the game was as good as the trip. We need 3 against PR. No doubt about it.
I'm very particular about what teams wear on the field...(big fan of uni-watch.com) but why did the Rowdies wear white last night?
I would love for them to do that like they do in Europe, but if they did that (sit next to the ultras with security between us) you know there would be even more aggro. Yes those posers were tool boxes, but what do you expect from South Florida?
They are following the general custom of wearing their first choice uniform unless there is a clash with the home side. I know they haven't always done this, but that is a question for the equipment manager. BTW, if the Rowdies followed this custom all the time, they probably wouldn't wear their green secondary at all unless it was at San Antonio. San Antonio has worn both black and white at home, they can't seem to make up their mind which is their primary.
As a Hispanic, I won't deny that, as Soccer supporters, we're very passionate. However, the behavior of those Striker Likers behind goal was pathetic and since not all of them were Hispanic/Latino, it just points out that this is more of a South Florida thing. The next time a Stiker Liker bitches about how we treat them at our venue, I'd tell them to go cry me a river and shove their complaints up their @$$3$!!!
I have been to many games when I lived in South America and I can assure you not even our biggest rivals would do what the strikers player did. Just like Chris said, its not a Latino thing its a South Florida thing. Its our fault we care enough about our team to travel and make an away game seem like a home game. We might of lost on the field, but on the stands we still remain undefeated.
We have only "bitched" about legitimate issues. When a TB fan comes and tries to steal someone else's property, that's an issue. When a Mob member comes over, tramples someone else's flag and disrespects their country, then comes out after the game and tries to pick a fight, that's an issue. When Mob members throw beer at us(first game at Steinbrenner in 2010), that's an issue. You all threw a fit when those guys in ATL jacked your flag, no? Legit beef. What happened to you all on Saturday that was so bad? Got some taunts from some fans and a flag waved at you by a plastered idiot? Ooooooh. Away fans are supposed to catch hate from the home fans. Soooo sorry if you're feelings got hurt. The inept FO at the Rowdies seems content to stick us right in the middle of the general home fans every time, and we hear it all game long, from the little girls yelling "Strikers suck!" right up to the drunken asshats hopped up on liquid courage. I'll give you Laing stepped over the line a bit(quite literally). Probably deserved a yellow. But I seem to remember Mike Ambersley running over and taunting our section last year. Jonathan Faña of the Islanders did it twice. It happens. Get over it. When you get beat, sometimes the opposing players have a little fun. Welcome to the club.
Just like Chris and Seb said, and as another fellow Hispanic, this does not normally happen. But truth is it can happen anywhere in any country. Player is a bonehead. And he specifically got right next to me and Parsons to do it. Uncalled for, but it is expected.
After you guys threw a Drum Stick at him, all he did was pick it up and play air drums (on the field, mind you.).....Oh No! You guys are SUCH Victims!
Swear to christmas some of you Strikers fans are complete and total boobs about this stuff. Nooooooobody in the Mob cares if a player taunts us. This wasn't the first time and it won't be the last. Of course we talk about it after the fact, like when our good buddy mr. Steele showed his ass at us last season. We do care that this time a player left the field of play and entered the stands to do it. Pretending like its no big deal just shows us all that you guys can be tools about this kind of stuff. Also, where have you seen anyone at all bitching about a Strikers fan visiting us in our section? It's been mentioned, as in statements of fact, and the moron was hilariously escorted out of our section before anything indecent could happen. Other than that, I've seen no bitching. Except from Strikers fans. As usual.
