The Crew starts their USOC campaign this year in the Third Round, facing the Rochester Rhinos on Tuesday June 29 at Crew Stadium, kicking off at 7:30 pm. Rochester is the only lower league team to ever knock us out of the USOC, in 1999 and 2009. We owe these guys some revenge for knocking us out last year. Back in 2002, the USOC was our first big trophy. We haven't even made the quarterfinals since then. It's about time we made another USOC run. We're due. And we've got a chance this year. This is our first home game in the tournament proper (meaning not counting the qualifying rounds) in years. Our most recent USOC-proper home game was 5 years ago! It's been a while. Who's coming out to Crew Stadium Tuesday night to cheer on the Crew? The full third round draw: June 29 New York Red Bulls (MLS) at Harrisburg City Islanders (USL-2) 7:00 p.m. Rochester Rhinos (USSF D-2) at Columbus Crew (MLS) 7:30 p.m. Charleston Battery (USL-2) at Chicago Fire (MLS) 8:30 p.m. Miami FC (USSF D-2) at Houston Dynamo (MLS) 8:30 p.m. AC St. Louis (USSF D-2) at Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS) 10:30 p.m. Austin Aztex (USSF D-2) at Chivas USA (MLS) 10:30 p.m. June 30 Richmond Kickers (USL-2) at D.C. United (MLS) 7:30 p.m. Seattle Sounders (MLS) at Portland Timbers (USSF D-2) 10:30 p.m.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round the HDC field is gonna be packed with 44 players on it at one time!
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round I think it is rather unfortunate that the Crew were placed in a harder portion of the bracket than other teams - see the Red Bulls (will play a USL-2 team, could've gotten an AMATEUR one) and United (was assured a USL-2 side) and those two teams will play each other despite failing to qualify based on the 2009 standings; Plus, Chivas and the Sounders could've gotten an amateur opponent. And for the second consecutive year the Crew will play the Rhinos (USSF-DII) with the opportunity to again potentially play the Fire - The same old opponents gets VERY boring. To me it just shows that not even US Soccer holds the tournament in high esteem. Play it right and go all out - or don't play it at all. I can buy regional factors in qualifying - but when we get to the 3rd Round of the tourney proper, regional factors should go out the window. (At least the Galaxy could've faced MN and will play STL - so it isn't all regional. ) Nevertheless, I am planning to be there to see the Crew play a NY-state based, non-MLS opponent for the second time. (Oh, Syracuse Salty Dogs - You are missed. )
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round O, and I say we get a 2-0 victory. Duncan strikes again and I'll say Herrera scores, maybe, if he plays (?) They will make up for last year.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Chivas is playing their game at Cal State Fullerton.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Potential quarterfinal matchups have been announced here: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Lamar-Hunt-U-S-Open-Cup/2010/06/Second-Round-Concludes-Third-Round-Matches-Set-For-2010-Lamar-Hunt-US-Open-Cup.aspx If the Crew beat Rochester, we might be making another trip out to Peoria. Here are the Crew possibilites: Click the link for the full list of possibilties. Note that the brackets that thecup.us posted were wrong.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Too...much...footy. And its incredible. I think attendance will be like the Champions League against Puerto Rico. 3500-5000
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round We are going to deeing the Duka, Grifft and francis
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round The tickets for Qualifying for the Champions League are part of the season ticket package as Special Game A, B, and C. These USOC tickets are a la carte, I'd be shocked if we got 5k. (although the prices are discounted for Ticket holders apparently, funny I haven't gotten an email) For the Grouchy Points I used those Champions League games, so I will do the same with this game. FYI.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Will this be available to watch on the webernet anywhere?
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round The Pittsburgh/Rochester game was broadcast online, so hopefully we'll get the same for this game. I'm not sure which team was doing the video, though, so keep your fingers crossed.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round I would have voted 'this is way too many choices and now I'm confused' if it didn't mean I'd fall farther behind in the prestigious Grouchy Competition.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Griffit Scores and gets an assist 2-0 to the Massive Club.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Duka wins after Duka scores 13 in a 13-0 Dilly Duka romp.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round I will be at this game. Frankly, I am intrigued by what the reserves will do. I take it Herrera will see the pitch this time. If not, then I know he is a bust. Seeing Dilly's comments, I know he and the reset of the reserves will be champing at the bit to get at the Rhinos. Is it too much to say we have some unfinished business from last year or does Crew really don't give two turds about the USOC.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round If you paid $2 for that wretched garbage, you got ripped. Swill is step above that crap.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Ha ha, thats what we were privileged to drink last year in Rochester. They were best used for the beer shower we shared when St. Duncan scored off a sweet bicycle kick.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round Anyone care to predict the starting XI? [LINEUP-4-4-2]Herrera, Lenhart, Duka, Griffit, Yanez, Ekpo, Oughton, Burns, Francis, Zayner, Gruenebaum [/LINEUP-4-4-2] I'm not really sure if Francis is a CB or LB or RB. I'm not even sure if he's a candidate to play. I really don't know much at all about the reserves. I also don't know where Yanez plays, so I just went off of where they had him for the scrimmage against Louisville. They may have moved him out of CM since then.
Re: Crew vs Rochester Rhinos 6/29 USOC Third Round [LINEUP-4-4-2]Herrera, Lenhart, Duka, Yanez, Griffit, Ekpo, Francis, Iro, Zayner, Oughton, Gruenebaum[/LINEUP-4-4-2] Bench- Garey, Hesmer, Carroll, Gaven, Moffat, Brunner, Marshall Francis is a LB. Yanez has played Outside Mid, CM, and outside back Zayner/Oughton could be changed- This would give us an extremely fresh lineup, but I'm not sure if Warzycha would be happy playing a non-CB at CB. Brunner could start, or even Marshall. This is all assuming O'Rourke and Hejduk are both unavailable to play. And also, Burns is still on the IR to my knowledge.
