Wow. I was wondering when this was going to go up. Ok. This is a team that can score on Chelsea and tie PSG. No BS about this. The Crew are not a strong team and we are playing at home. We need to make RFK full and rocking like in days of yore, when Columbus knew that a visit to DC meant a loss. Its been forever since our last meaningful home game. Bring the noise. Crush the Crew.
I still remember the good old days when CumBlowUs was 0-14 at RFK. No reason they should win this game here at all. We've got to stay sharp though, they can bowl over a defense that's not paying attention to their marks and closing balls down.
our stadium may be old and crumbly, but at least it isn't full of bleachers! so take that, Columbus Crew! sorry - I don't have a good lather of hate for C-bus like for NE , NY/NJ, and LA. I like DCU's chances, but I have a feeling the defense has some mental lapses on the way in this game. 4-2 DCU, goals from Pontius (2), Salihi, and McDonald. yes, McDonald.
I said it in the post-game thread, but Williams, Arrieta, and Renteria are the only MLS-calibre players on that team and I will be deeply saddened by anything less than 3 points. Deeply saddened.
Right now I feel like we are 50/50 with regards to getting into the playoffs. Some people are more optimistic and that's fine, but to me this Columbus game is a MUST win, and even a "tie is bad" situation.
Must win game vs original Cows. my XI prediction: Hamid Korb Dudar McDonald Woolard Cruz Kitchen Boskovic Pontius DeRosario Striker_of_the_Week With Russell out for some time, we will see if we need to look for one or two right backs this offseason; it's Korb's time to show us what he's got over the next month. D looks better with Dudar, question is the other CB. I want Jackovic, so I'm sure Benny starts McDonald. Not happy with the wing play of DeLeon lately, I put Pontius wide left. Najar is not here to challenge wide right, so Cruz missiles it is. Hoping for 75 minutes from Boskovic. DeRo up top with whoever earned the spot next to him in training this week. If DeRo is still out of form like he was the last two weeks, take him out at half or 60min mark and let someone else challenge for that spot. There should be a very healthy competition for playing time between the forwards with Tan getting the start against PSG. Santos, Salihi and Wolff should be pushing very hard for playing time this week. Anyone have an update on the newly acquired AM Raphael Augusto's paperwork status? Just wondering how long it will take before we can see what he can do. His resume is great, the highlight video was a little less than great, but was happy to see him take many first touches forward with the ball; I see too many MLS players' first touch stop all motion, then decide where to go and what to do. This just allows the other team's D to set up and kills any counter attack options that may have been there. On ice for Saturday: Steamboat's Liberty Ale brewed in San Fran. Vamos United!!!
I'd put us at 75 - 25 right now. 90-10 if we beat Columbus (definitely the closest team to knocking us out of the playoffs). We would be arguably in the best spot of SKC/Chicago/Columbus fighting for 3 spots and with a legit shot at catching NY or Houston too.
I didn't see the PSG game but the matchtracker said united played a 4-5-1. think we might see that in league play? seems like a good option to get bosko and de ro on the field at the same time and santos can play the target forward position.
Can't make it to the game today! Anyone want to buy some tickets off me (2 Tix)? Section 231. I'll sell em for dirt cheap! Someone help a brother out! Call 703-282-5026. Thanks!
After a rough month on the road need to show value of home tonight. Have a stretch of matches that will dictate our playoff hopes, come 2nd of September think we'll really see our % chance of making it.
How does Tan start over our DP who is much better? I'm still not convinced Ben knows how to evaluate talent.
Wait, Salihi is not even on the substitutes bench, is he somehow unavailable or has Ben Olsen gone nuts?
So for those keeping tabs, for United it's -------------Hamid---------------- Korb-McDonald-Dudar-Woolard DeLeon--- Kitchen-------Pontius -----------Boskovic--------------- ---------DeRosario-Tan--------- Dudar showing well so far, head-scratcher over Santos and Salihi, except comments on-air Tan scored 4 on a training match, so... there ya go.
There's no question that if Salihi is healthy and available, even if he's not starting, he should be on the bench ahead of Wolff. But he's not. And that's crazy.
Ben's so called 'bite' is biting us in the backside, we're not producing, this has been going on for a while.
Wasn't the prettiest game, but it is 3 points. DeLeon may or may not have broken through the rookie wall, but at least he was able to get a look beyond it. Tan did some good stuff. Pontius continues to be dangerous. The backline was better than it has been.
