Yes, he's also very handsy. Typically gets away with it, but relies on it way too much and when refs start to call it there's not much he can do.

Having said that, Crew still tied for fewest goals allowed, so let's not get too doom and gloom about how awful Camacho and Shulte are (amongst others).

I don't think Arfsten had a bad game, rather Jones had a better game. Arfsten would have shot that ball if it was him on the back post.

Miami gave Matan whatever space he wanted but clogged the channels to eliminate Matan's through balls. Soccerwise pointed out how unusually congested they were, and that showed in how Gomez stayed central and did not press like in the leagues cup game. This eliminated moves in Zone 14 (Penalty Arc to the Spot), which then prevented guys from being pulled open for balls out wide followed by cutbacks to the spot. It made Ramirez a lonely man; at least he had a good defensive shift.

The best move of the night was Chambost chest high cross to Jones who laid it off to Matan who gave it to Cucho for a 1-2 that never came as Cucho held the ball and tried to hero ball it. That choice was alright that late in the game. We've been having a lot of trouble there of late, and I'm not sure throwing the 6th guy up in the attack formation is opening that up.

There should be bonus grouchy points for this game right? 4 goals scored in about 5 minutes of game time

This is the problem with a one dimensional vampire. Your not scared of him shooting so it renders him ineffective when the defense has no fear of him ripping a shot off. Ramírez is slow and both are back up quality. We need a younger more athletic Ramírez type.
Mățan has potential but the light still hasn’t clicked and until ppl respect him to score they can just play him to pass. Both are good players but not good starters.

Are we still good enough to win the playoffs? Yes, I’ve thought that all season and continue to think that.

That being said, Camacho is slow, clumsy, and prone to brain farts. Schulte continues to show erratic decision making and a lack of command of his box. Great shot stopper, but young and flawed still. Schulte will continue to improve, but let’s be real Camacho will continue to decline. I’d like to bring in a Camacho replacement or apprentice either this offseason or next summer at the latest.

    Good read.

I'm not just saying this because of the way it developed, but I didn't give a rat's ass about the Club World Cup before, and I don't care about it now. So let Miami have it.

I've always said that I prefer domestic competitions to international ones. I don't believe that making a competition more international makes it better. It's why I fiercely resist the idea of an MLS/Liga MX merger that gets floated around every now and then. It's why I watch the Crew in Leagues Cup, but still haven't completely warmed up to it overall. If you want to have one tournament a year (Champions Cup) where it happens, fine. That makes it important without diluting interest. Fine.

But I'm not all that enthralled with the idea of watching clubs from England play against clubs from Saudi Arabia, or Australia, or whatever the hell is going to happen here. Even watching the Crew... I'm not delusional about where MLS stands in the world soccer hierarchy. So another money grab tournament in the midst of all the other money grabs isn't super appealing to me.

I'm also not all that annoyed that Miami got it. I mean, obviously they wanted Messi to be involved all along. No surprise, and I don't think anyone can really blame them. It's better for business. But also, Miami did win the Supporters' Shield, which is the trophy for the most consistent team over the course of the entire 2024 season. Is it all that unreasonable that that would be who goes to the CWC in 2025? If the thing had been held this year, the choice would have been between Columbus and Cincinnati, but it wasn't. It's being held in 2025. Taking the most recent Shield winner that just happens to have the GOAT. seems like a wise decision to me. So whatever.

Wow, I had a very different take after the game than most folks here. I had a great time, that felt like a huge game and the atmosphere was great. I'm so glad I went.

The way the Crew played the final 25 minutes of the game, despite being somewhat typical of an MLS 10-man advantage, has me feeling really optimistic about the postseason. There are a whole bunch of players wearing yellow who will be desperate to go down to Miami and get another shot at those guys.

As we know, FIFA hasn't received any offer for broadcast rights.

It's damning to the event/FIFA that ESPN won't offer them $1,000,000 or some other similar "small bean" fee they could easily recoup. Some games would be on ESPN/ESPN2 with the majority on ESPN+. It won't be good for FIFA to keep their asking price up. It's not like they're in a bidding war.

"Be happy you're getting an offer. Every game isn't on broadcast TV in stunning 4K with a 3.5-hr window, but you'll get what you'll get and you'll like it, you greedy grumps."

Hell, Fox could do the same thing...bury it on Fox Soccer Plus before that mess goes out of its misery. (Yes, it's still around.)

If FIFA tells them to get lost, well, that's on them for not accepting any offer.

IIRC, there's a requirement from FIFA's to put most World Cup games on broadcast TV. Unless FIFA has a similar requirement for the Club World Cup, then it'll definitely be interesting to see where this whole thing lands.

My guess: It will be on some sort of live video service. It may not be ideal, but there's no way there won't be cameras there. It might be on Netflix or Max, but it's a good bet it'll be *somewhere.*

This might also teach FIFA a lesson about the powers of bundling, but I doubt it. "Hey, if you want the World Cup, you also gotta air the Club World Cup."

Let’s be real, it’s just a different version of the ICC. No one is gonna play for a preseason tournament, it’s ridiculous.

I don’t understand you guys sometimes.

I have enjoyed watching Chelsea play in the CWC in the past. Playing teams you never normally see is fun.

It would have been really cool to watch the Crew play against the world’s best clubs.

Crew go on a run and beat Real Madrid, Inter, Bayern, PSG, and CHELSEA and win the CWC. Do people around the world hail the Crew as the greatest team in the world? No, they say it’s mickey mouse this and mickey mouse that and preseason blah blah blah no one cares. Great.

The Crew get crushed by the aforementioned teams, and do people say of course they lost, they are playing the world’s best teams? No, they say MLS is mickey mouse this and mickey mouse that and North America is just a pile of shit for soccer, period. Great.

So, why exactly should people care? I know for you specifically it seems like a large part of your fandom is just going to games and shooting the shit with friends and family, and that’s great. We all enjoy the sport differently.

For me, it’s preseason where the other team won’t care, so why should I?

I like watching my team play. The opinions of others on the legitimacy of the competition or competitors is irrelevant.

I mean, I cared about the US Open Cup games when I was one of tens of people in the stadium so I guess YMMV.
