CWC could possibly not even happen it definitely like MLS sounds corrupted. Not having the Crew in that tournament would be a joke. Especially considering lesser MLS teams being entered and why not more ranking pathway teams from our region ? Via ranking pathway Bayern München (Germany) Paris Saint-Germain (France) Inter Milan (Italy) FC Porto (Portugal) SL Benfica (Portugal) Borussia Dortmund (Germany) Juventus (Italy) Atlético Madrid (Spain) FC Salzburg (Austria) isn’t the point of the tournament to see who the best is. So why aren’t the best in our region gettin as many opportunities???
Dejuan Jones will be a rotational starter at worse I think he ends up starting it may not be this year. Derrick Jones yes Nancy has no confidence in him at CM he might as well convert to CB or find another team. But at 325k he was never expected to start he is a situational defensive sub. They probably thought he could be a rotational starter but we continue to give more minutes at CM in front of him. Chambost seems like he was expected as depth and is providing it. Next year he can probably earn more minutes but he seemed like a depth piece from the moment we got him.
Yeboah got better but isn’t as good as Arfsten and won’t be here much longer. Christian should be a sub/ rotational starter but he is better than the lil tiny vampire who just isn’t good at scoring goals. I’m not sold on Chsmbost being better than Alex but he definitely doesn’t understand the system or his teammates to warrant more minutes than Mățan but we really have a bunch of options but no quality starter to regularly start with Cucho & Rossi and we should have got a DP attacker to fit that bill. nothing wrong with the u22 investment in Hinestroza but why didn’t we try more especially a u22 CB , CM or CF ??? Only takes 200k on cap so why not find players and if they don’t work out we get rid of them, we have rich owners but we seem gun shy. I’m not saying make bad signings but you couldn’t find better players than what we have right now at CB, CM and that 3rd attacker ? maybe we need better scouts or bigger balls to take some risk. I refuse to believe our owners are cheap. Something has to give!
I didn't want to pile on but yes, they have really sucked on signings and roster decisions going back to winter. Hinestroza was a dud. Derrick Jones doesn't move the needle. Chambost doesn't look like a difference maker so far. Zawadzki had concussion issues and now has an injury on top of that, and his best positions are CB and CDM anyways. These were the solutions for CAM when the front office has known for a year that Aidan was being sold this summer and know that Nagbe is aging and needs more rotation. At goalkeeper, Hagen is never available when we actually need a backup and Romero is awful. Bush could have been a stopgap if he hadn't gotten injured, but he was mainly signed for veteran presence anyway. Lapkes isn't ready. Again, no real planning when they knew Schulte receiving call ups was likely. No signings on defense, just a loan for Herrera who is an end of the bench sub most of the time. The best acquisition this year might be AZ Jackson, a fifth choice forward. Just simply not good enough.
Haven't felt this way about a loss since the Poochuca game. Crappy day. I still think we can beat any team, but we need rest. Anyone going on international duty should get Saturday off. Work on some new concepts the next two games, then round into form in the game(s) against the red bulls. Also pray that Sean's ribs heal quickly and/or that our physio doesn't puncture his lung when giving him tormadol.
Sudden Idea: Why not do it after the game in some sort of ceremony? That way, they can keep adding to the wall, keep the "tradition" (it's hard to call it that after just a few years) and not have a repeat of last night.
It's the second time in team history we got the Happy Trails segment. Tony even gave a shout-out to the "Pepto-Bismol pink" jerseys.
what’s up with the crew victim complex? Why can’t the ref be incompetent without an ulterior motive? I’m sure Miami fans are still wondering why their completely valid goal was waived off, is the official out to get them too?
Their goal wasn’t “completely valid”. Having the league actively try to kill you tends to make you open to believing things aren’t on the up and up.
I have been pleasantly surprised by US soccer media calling bullshit on the CWC decision. Even this guy of all people is saying it's disingenuous. 1841894869914243310 is not a valid tweet id
As I wrote earlier, FIFA is desperate. This ridiculous money grabbing tournament currently isn't grabbing much of anything. Worldwide. They had to have Messi.
Even the original iteration--the Intercontinental Cup (Champions Cup vs SA Cup winners)--was a joke. In the late 1970s, my Gladbach got to play. Why? Liverpool refused to go (due to schedule congestion, supposedly), and Gladbach was the 1977 runners up. By the time they played the second leg if the final, it was two seasons later, and Gladbach had a completely different team.
And of course one of the MLS entrants is Seattle, as reward for winning the CCC in....2022. The whole thing is a sham. The European clubs are all grumbling about it, FIFPro is unhappy, but FIFA is flexing their muscles and throwing big money around as inducement. If they had any shame at all, they'd be embarrassed. But since FIFA's power lies with 100 voting countries that have no big clubs, no power and no money, they're anxious to back Infantino on this. It's all profit to them.
So it now sounds like a done deal that the Messis are being chosen. It took them less than 24 hours after clinching the Supporters Shield to release this "pre-announcement." Forget that we won MLS Cup and the most recent edition of the Leagues Cup. They have Me$$i.
The Offside Miami player totally influenced the play. Schulte moved to defend against him and couldn't get back to defend the player who scored the goal.
I thought the Crew looked the better team throughout the 1st half. I also thought Arfsten had his best game in quite some time and I thought Matan was doing well pushing the attack. Matan has limitations, specifically his mid-range final ball, but thought he had an overall good game. I'm not sure what he was asked to do in defense, so that could have been lacking, but it wasn't something I noticed.
