Columbus Crew vs Inter Miami Notes: Tree came down on the power line in my backyard. Yay. No power since Friday. Batteries dying. Hope fading. This may be my last post forever. Crush Messi in memory of me!
I believe it's exact time 7:54. FS1 has a broadcast window from 7:30 to 10pm, hence the delayed kickoff.
Pretty cool you’ve been posting from a jungle in Costa Rica. Give my “regards” to David Guzman if you see him in town.
The absence of electricity, green foliage, and wet does make me think of El Yunque in Puerto Rico. I'm waiting for @chr1st to post a picture of the guaba spider stalking him and his dog.
If Messi plays in our stadium, and after all the other surreal dreams that have come true, I’m seriously gonna believe that I am in the Matrix and being used as a battery for the great AI.
We are within striking distance of first place in the MLS EC and the Supporters Shield, and we have a game in hand. We have 4 matches left(12 max. points), Miami has 3(9 max. points). We are behind Miami by 8 points. If we win all 4, or win 3 and get one tie, and Miami completely collapses(3 loses or 2 loses and a tie), we win the Supporters Shield. There is no way Messi wont play in Columbus on Wed. evening, right? Oh yeah, this is MLS!
I think he'll play. Maybe because it's a midweek game, he won't start. But I'd still bet we see him as a second half sub, especially if they're losing. With a win, I believe Miami can officially wrap up the Shield. We're also the defending champions and the alleged best team in North America (not so "alleged", imo)--just sayin, I think there are narratives/reasons for him to play. Maybe the man's curious to see what we're about... or maybe he doesn't give a shit and doesn't even get on the plane, lol
One of the biggest regular season match ups in recent memory that’s not a rivalry game. I can’t wait and my daughter is excited. Chloe did ask me a while back which jersey she would wear and I said well if your want to go with me you won’t be wearing your Messi jersey. This one will be epic no matter what happens everyone will remember this match. This is one that you just don’t want to miss. I do think Messi subs in or out of this gm. More likely he comes in off the bench. Years from now everyone will ask you where you were at when Messi came to Columbus.
I think Messi starts. People thought they were going to ease him back from his injury, give him a few 15-30 minute cameos before a start. He started immediately. Hes not a guy who has eased into anything or taken it easy. My concern is Nagbe. Hes pretty clearly gassed. He probably needs a solid week or more off to rest his legs. But now is not the time. I can see that being an issue in this game and going forward.
I have been surprised by the e-mail and social media push from the Crew for tickets for the Inter-Miami match. Is this game not sold out? Weeknight in October an issue? Ticket prices for the match set too high? Or just the normal final few tickets remain (as with other matches)?
There are still a fair amount of "blue" unsold tickets that are listed for the "Miami" inflated prices. I have my ticket for resale for just under $300, which is about $150 off the "face value" that the rest of the tickets in my section were priced at--those have all now sold. I'm not sure my ticket will sell at that price, in which case I'll head down to Columbus tomorrow night. They might have overestimated the Messi demand.
I think messi starts tomorrow and perhaps takes Saturday off. He's already been called up for Argentina, so maybe he gets some rest against the Canadians.
They must be figuring out right about now that the prices are a little extreme. There’s currently no fees on the unsold tickets.
It's obviously just a guess, but I'd have to opine that Messi coming to Columbus is not as big a deal as it is for teams which never win anything and have little excitement and no real draw. The Crew seemingly has some sort of Cup or Championship match every other week. There's plenty of excitement going on down at ldc and so no real need to create any phony baloney buzz. We've got our own buzz.
Well, that and people aren't paying close to $500 for a Wednesday night regular season game in which there's never been any guarantee of Messi actually playing. Now it's clear that he will be playing, but the time value of the tickets has eroded....people who were deadset on going bought tickets months ago, everyone else knows that the unsold inventory isn't worth the face value they're proposing since it isn't sold out and it drops to being worth $0 tomorrow night. Ohio State vs Michigan secondary market tickets cost less than what MLS tried to charge for this game. They blundered.
