Powell might have been exaggerating about anthrax, too

There have been allegations that Iraq was researching drying technologies for anthrax. In particular, Bacillus thuringiensis spores - a close relation to anthrax spores - were tested on a spray dryer in December 1989, according to UNSCOM. However, there has been no evidence that anthrax spores were themselves ever dried by Iraq, and it is unclear if Iraq ever obtained suitable drying equipment for itself. In the absence of evidence that Iraq produced dried anthrax, Secretary Powell's comments to the Security Council of 5 February 2003 are irrelevant.

I forget which thread it was in - probably the Powell PBP thread - but I remember saying something to the effect that it was worth going to war in order to deprive Saddam of his anthrax supplies. I was ignorant in the processes of weaponizing anthrax, and stupid enough to believe that Powell wasn't telling a bunch of Clintons in his speech.

How can you say that??? I trust GLEN RANGWALA (the guy who runs the site) over the SecState. I mean he has his own website and everything!

Sorry, Dan, but you can not get your news from such a biased source (check out the main site. I wonder if he loves Israel...it is so hard to tell which side he supports). Other sources (including former inspectors) directly refute this site's claims. I'll trust them before some idiot on the net.

Here is an idea: I'll start a site that says that Saddam kept our missing pilot and tortures him daily while brewing up smallpox and chewing on the flesh of political prisoners. He writes long love letters to OBL while plotting world domination. I'll throw in a bunch of links to official documents and then "evaluate" them for you so that you don't have to bother reading them. I'll ignore any evidence that doesn't fit my story since I know you'll be too lazy to look it up yourself. Will you be posting a new thread supporting my claims? I can't wait...I hope you'll title it "Powell and Bush not even scratching the surface: Saddam is Satan" :D

Back to the anthrax issue: I don't believe that anthrax is the largest threat to our soldiers since it is not a good battefield weapon but it does pose a significant threat as a terror weapon. You also must remember that anthrax is just one of the biological weapons that Iraq has produced and Iraq also had a very substantial chemical weapon program. If any WMD is used, my bet is that chemical weapons are going to be used in the upcoming war since they have a proven battefield history and are easier to use.

I linked to a quote from a CSIS document.

EDIT - which is here: http://www.csis.org/stratassessment/reports/iraq_bios.pdf

And, to be fair, I didn't make it clear enough that I was asking whether it was true that Saddam had no technology for producing deliverable anthrax. I leapt to the conclusion that it was true, because otherwise Powell might have brought it up, instead of doing the sleight of hand with the little vial of Super-Soldier serum he brought.

I didn't even know that the stuff had to be dried, and that it was such a difficult process. If the CSIS (and the site I got the link from) is wrong, I'd honestly love to hear about it.

And yeah, Cannon, I would trust your site over Colin Powell at the moment. After all, you haven't gone in front of Congress and said that Bin Laden was in partnership with Saddam, referencing a tape that said the opposite.
