My son's U17 team is playing in the Potomac Memorial Tournament over Memorial Day weekend in Germantown Maryland.

I am going to try to referee out there -- I've sent my info to the referee coordinator listed on the website.

Is there anyone else here that refs there? Anyone know the assignors for the tournament? What's the best way to get some good assignments?

I live about 10 minutes from the soccer plex. Missy Lambert is a good assignor - she also assigns WAGS and NCSL games during the season.

As far as getting good assignments, it will depend on your background.

    Kev,

You and I exchanged PMs about this earlier. Good to hear you'll be there. At the very least, I wouldn't mind meeting you at some point, as I'll be reffing at the tournament again (and often end up doing the older age groups such as U-15 and above).

I think assignments are actually being split between Missy and Jack Kyriakos. I can put you in touch with either of them if you want.

But I do agree that what games you actually get is a bit random if you're coming from out of town.

    Gildarkevin,

Yes, I remember. At that time, I was trying to decide whether to stay and do a Memorial tournament here (which is run by our SRA and therefore is politically a good thing to do) or to travel with my son's team and work out there. I decided to travel with my son to be able to see his games.

I have submitted my info through the form on the website.

    Claymore & Gildarkevin,

Would you guys be interested in working a game together -- call it the bigsoccer crew? If so, maybe one of you local guys could ask Missy or Jack to give us one game together sometime.

I'd love to do it, but I usually get my games through Jack and I'd suspect that Claymore gets his through Missy (Missy is the assignor for an organization called "CSRA"; Jack is the assignor for an organization known as "MWSRA" -- I'm on the Board of Directors for MWSRA, so it's tough to take assignments from Missy for this tournament.

If you want me to try and work it out with Jack as we get closer, though, I can. We'd usually be scheduled as a crew for 3 or 4 games, rotating through each position.

I've told Jack that he's free to schedule me for as much as he needs me on 2 of the 3 days of the tournament, when and where are his choice.

I assume that they would each schedule a different sight then, huh?

If that's the case, then I guess I'll get assigned to whichever sight my son plays -- in the U17 boys.

I think they actually split it up by age groups -- one gets the odd ages (U-19, U-17, etc.) and the other gets the even ages.
