Things become a little clearer. When we played Norwich I remember thinking that while Cantwell was a handy player, I wasn't entirely sure why there was a fair bit of buzz around his moving to Liverpool. An article in the Liverpool Echo about the PL rules on homegrown and international players goes a long way to explaining the interest (if there is any) in Cantwell and possible/probable targets and exits in the summer. Firstly, having had a very quiet summer window and only Minamino in the winter window, the conventional wisdom says Liverpool will be investing in the upcoming window. There is a PL requirement for the make up of the squad that of the 25 man squad, there can be no more than 17 overseas players and there has to be 8 homegrown players. If they don't meet these numbers, they can only name a 23 man squad. At present the homegrown players are Chirivella, Clyne, Gomez, Henderson, Lallana, Lonergan, Milner and AOC. I have wondered why Lonergan has stayed with the club. Obviously this doesn't include TAA, Kelleher, Jones, Williams plus the likes of Wilson, Kane and Phillips, but so far they've been counted as U21 players; TAA will make the jump as will Kelleher. There's a decent chance that Jones and Williams will also make the cut. Clyne is probably gone along with Lonergan and probably Lallana and maybe Chrivella. But as you can see, this homegrown rule will affect the number of domestic players. U21 players do not count against either quota, but decisions will still have to be made about the likes of Brewster, Elliott, Glatzel, Hoever, Larouci, Lewis, van den Berg and Woodburn The overseas players currently stand at 17, the maximum allowed. But this includes Karius and Grujic, and, surprisingly, Robertson. Players on the 25 man squad can be loaned out and still count against the quota. So you'd imagine Karius will be gone and probably Grujic, but if Klopp is looking to bring in international stars such as Werner and more, then there'll have to be more exits. Shaqiri? Lovern? Sancho would qualify as a homegrown player should he move, so for that reason, more than Liverpool will be very interested in him and his price will reflect that premium for English sides. Things have become a little clearer, but this is the football version of musical chairs. It's going to be interesting to see the make up of that 25 man squad for next season.

80m in new midfielders!!! Spanish newspaper Sport offer to fresh pieces of speculation, with Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes and Lille’s Boubakary Soumare both linked. https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-eduardo-camavinga-boubakary-soumare
He's got a year left on his contract and will be 31ish when its over. I can say with almost 100% certainty he won't be retiring with us, so do we sell him or let him play it out and wish him well for giving us the best years of his career? So the uncertainty is the media playing that up - when we all know he's not being sold this summer.
We're prepared to battle it out with Arsenal for Dayot Upamecano. Yes, please, kid is legit. Liverpool have joined the race for Valencia starlet Ferran Torres, and could land him on a free transfer, if they are prepared to wait a year to sign him. Another legit youngster.
Evan N'Dicka sounds more like the type of player Arsenal might be interested in. And Liverpool are also said to be sniffing around the Eintracht Frankfurt defender. The French have a crazy amount of sub-26 yr old talent and should win a couple more major trophies - this is another kid that I'd happily take.
works for me - double our money. however there was an interesting article or quote from a Bayern Board member who said he expects crazy transfer fees to drop for a few years as many teams will be struggling financially due to the virus and loss of income.
Is Keita ever going to be fit enough to play? It is now 2 seasons of frustration with injuries and being out of form - can he get it together. Ox is a dynamic player, but no way can he replace Gini. When the entire midfield is fit, in my opinion, it seems that his position is the one that is not under threat. Fab or Hendo at the base. Ox or Keita or Hendo as the most offensive minded of the trio. Gini as the glue.
I don't see it. Might be like Sturridge and give us one fantastic season and go right back to stop-start.
Yeah it's been a stuttering time so far for Nabby , some flashes of what he can do all too often interrupted by injuries. I tend to think he'll still be around next season but Klopp's patience will likely run out if we see more of the same from him. Nabby will need to strut his stuff and stay fit .
After two years we know what we’ve got with Keita. A lot of talent and nous, a brittle body. Safe to say he’s not physically up to being a regular starter. Do we want to retain him under these circumstances?
Agree with that . I think with Lallana leaving and an aging Milner that Nabby will get one more year. Last chance saloon though.
No reason not to bring in someone to compete. If he's not up to it we move him along next year and will already have someone in place
