I’m not mad. I said it was one of my favorite things.

You’re a crazy, mean person and while normally I feel sorry for people like you because all of God’s children are precious, sometimes the sinful nature of man takes over and I find joy in the misery of bad people. This is one of those times. Your pain and frustration have put a pep in my step.

But why? I mean, versus simply keeping everything in the same region, or at least same hemisphere?

If there was only going to be 1 World Cup it would make sense to divide it up like that globally to give everyone a taste, but given that there's a WC every 4 years and each individual region (or hemisphere, at least) is capable of hosting the whole thing on its own, I really don't get the point of just adding on challenging logistics.

Maybe FIFA is going to be sponsored by the airlines that would profit from that arrangement? Perhaps they want to add another layer of controversy as teams battle jetlag for the final?

It would be good to keep it as compact and simple as possible.

Politics. Make 2 confederations happy instead of one.

And it wouldn’t necessarily mean 2 different hemispheres. It could be England and Egypt. Brazil and America.

No-one would be happy if they're not hosting the final.

I guess. I'd certainly prefer a situation where both US and country X host a 24-team tournament, and country Y hosting the final than what we have in 2026 with Mexico getting the Mexico NT games and a light dusting of other matches. It resulted in crazy ticket prices for matches in Mexico and makes the tournament unbalanced. Unfortunately, 2030 takes this imbalance to the extreme.

Lots of nations would, namely, the ~180 nations that know they aren’t going to be in the Final.

Yeah, but in practice (At least for both 2026 and 2030,) first the countries are selected and then the distribution of matches are decided on, including the final. Inevitably this leads to someone being unhappy.

Aren't Morocco and Spain in a row over who should host the 2030 final as we discuss this?

The thing about the current approach is that it enables a country to co-host with only two or three venues. It doesn't force those countries to have enough for a 24-team half-tournament. So we'll see the same thing with Portugal having three venues.

Yeah, Portugal is on the smaller side.

But between MX and Canada, they could have easily hosted half the WC games (i.e. a 24-team tournament). Would have made for a better World Cup for sure.

If you are implying that Infantino's bid engineering/meddling is the result of fear, rather than greed, then I strongly disagree. We are dealing with a self-serving, megalomaniac individual here and the sooner he's gone, the better for the game.

I appreciate some Americans (not you in particular) don't want to look too closely as US Soccer has been one of the main beneficiaries of his policies (next to Saudi Arabia), but his presidency has been absolutely insufferable to the rest of us.

Nobody thanked USA after Blatter was forced to resigned either (Jun 2015).

One month prior to Blatter's resignation, multiple CCAF+CBOL officials were arrested in Europe and the Americas, as US authorities extradited them under fraud and money laundering charges.

US was approved to host 2026 WC in Jun 2018. Funny how things worked out.

Ok. So what you are saying is that he loses the election, gets arrested, and then we host again in 2038? I mean, yeah that's fine.

The key to getting 2038 for the US is to let Infantino do Infantino things.

I therefore expect zero interest by the US Department of Justice in FIFA affairs. Call me a cynic.

There is no "Qatargate" score to settle, and the Copa America seems to have found its forever home in the US. Conmebol officials too should be able to sleep soundly.

RUMOR: MEXICO wants to be the main host for the 2038 WC and wants Central America and the Caribbean as co hosts! Opinions?

Add Colombia, and maybe Ecuador. That could work.

    - Mexico (5 venues)
    - Colombia (4 venues)
    - Ecuador (2 venues)
    - Central America (3 venues)
    - Caribbean (2 venues)

    Something like that.

My prediction of the next FIFA World Cup hosts (realistic take):
    2038: Europe
    2042: USA/CONCACAF
    2046: Asia
    2050: South America
    2054: Africa

From a neutral fan POV, I would like to see these Bids for the 2038-2050 era: (random order)

    - FRA & GER
    - BRA & ARG
    - AUS & NZL
    - JPN & CHN
    - USA

I would have added one for ESP & MAR but that is already happening, I also like the KSA one.

A good idea - adding Canada would strengthen that bid
