My wife and I just drove to the Chicago suburbs from NE PA. There were a ton of ads for Michigan dispensaries all along the way. Until we got pretty far past South Bend, when the ads and billboards were for Illinois dispensaries.
I was up in the Travers City area on a golf trip with a bunch of guys I have known forever. One of the guys has moved to SC and is unable to get his preferred sleep aid gummy where he now lives. I went with him to the dispensary and he bought out all they had. It was my first time going into a dispensary and it was quite intimidating if you don't know what you want.
I keep seeing elsewhere that Michigan dispensaries would suffer with Ohio legalizing, ignoring the fact that the GOP runs things in Ohio and will make it miserable. On top of that, people from Illinois come to Michigan because it's cheaper despite it being legal in Illinois. Not to mention those coming from places like Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, or in some cases, Tennessee.
Traverse City is beautiful and thank you for reminding me I have to get back up there. As for intimidation, my first time in it was a little overwhelming but thankfully the staff were cool. Told them what I wanted and they gave me a bunch of stuff. It's like an Apple Store as someone once said.
The excessive regulations were built into the initiative. I voted for it despite its (many) flaws in the hopes that they might write some sensible legislation eventually as a correction. Hasn’t happened yet.
Never in the history of California politics has anyone in Sacramento endeavoured to write something sensible into legislation. Except for that dipshit doctor who sponsored a bill to repeal the requirement to wear rubber gloves in food service. In typical California fashion, he was the one who sponsored the bill to require wearing of rubber gloves in the first place. I'm from that state and most of my family still lives there. I love it, but it's a dumpster fire of over-regulation and waste (see: high-speed rail).
I’m posting this here because I need to boast. I’m convinced Michigan has the best sales around. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that people from Illinois make the trip to Michigan, mainly due to the prices. Despite it being legal there. I stopped at a dispensary in my hometown, it’s a small chain that has locations all over. I walked in to get some edibles. The clerk gets two, mentions a Buy One Get One deal with that brand, and mentions that I have points. What should have been a $20 transaction ended being $4 for two tins of edibles.
Putting this here. The article mentions Michigan's location, given that Indiana and Wisconsin border it. But I've mentioned before people from Illinois making the drive because it's cheaper. That, and then there's the southern states too. Michigan, which legalized recreational sales two years after California, surpassed the Golden State as the largest cannabis market in the country. That is particularly stunning considering California has nearly four times as many residents.https://t.co/YrHfVGDmCz— Los Angeles Times (@latimes) August 30, 2024
I just read an article in New Scientist magazine (insomnia is a bitch) that CBDs are effective against mosquitos. It’s a safe pesticide.
Repellent would be better. Pesticide won't necessarily keep you from getting bit and itchy- it just kills the biter.
$10 billion in sales and averaging $279 million a month. Any Michigan GOP pol that suggests repealing legalization will probably have to be locked away somewhere so they don't do any harm. Of course, the MI GOP isn't what I call bright. And still cheaper in Michigan than Ohio, and I'll argue again that as long as the GOP runs Ohio, Ohioans are still going to come here. https://www.bridgemi.com/quality-li...billion-michigan-few-years-after-legalization
$2.8 billion total for this year, $276 million in November. I wouldn't be surprised a lot of people visiting Michigan for Thanksgiving played a part. On a related and comedic note, my friend's mother, who lives in Georgia came to visit him and spent $800 on weed. She insisted he take her to a dispensary and went nuts. When my friend tried to get her to slow down, her response was, "I live in the south! I'm making the most of it here!" https://themarijuanaherald.com/2024...million-in-november-2-8-billion-year-to-date/
