and speaking of black jerseys...i would love to get my hands on one of the old Kansas City Attack jerseys made by Diadora with the white lettering..now THOSE were frickin' sweet!
How could an orange jersey be sweet? Do you also think the Cleveland Browns have a great logo (the color orange)? I tell you what, I'm thinking of doing a blue jersey that will blow your mind.
Syd, that shirt is actually red and silver. Although, the picture does makes it look kind of orange. The original Invader colors were red, silver, and black. I actually have one of those short sleeved red and silver jerseys (which were from the 1988-89 season). And I agree, that jersey is better than any of the current kits.
.....but the original (Atlanta) Attack logo left a lot to be desired. The second (Atlanta) version was better.
You know I thought I remembered they had a red and silver jersey that was kind of a rip off of the Force uniforms (not necessarily a bad thing). But in this picture why is the red in the ball red?
Agreed. The first Attack logo looked like an AM radio station logo. The new logo was great. Then they made the mistake of changing the name to Comets and putting out a really, really bad logo on top of it.
If that is indeed Derek Sanderson, then that team was Kalamazoo. Sanderson came to the Wave in 1986 from the Kangaroos.
Drago Dumbovic (Sting) shielding the ball from Gary Etherington (Strikers)...with the clear plexi-glass boards of The Rosemont Horizon in the background...
The uber-awesome Karl-Heinz Granitza goes one-on-one with the slightly deranged but nonetheless fabulous Tino Letteri..
Pat McGauley rips a shot and The Blast's Bruce Savage makes the block. Richard Chinapoo, Keith Van Eron (GK) (Blast) and Heinz Wirtz (Sting) await the outcome..
wow...that is cool....if you're gonna have the memory of giving up your first goal in the pro leagues who better than Granitza to be the one... he was one of my favorite players...top ten for sure...right up there with Julie Veee, Stan Stamenkovic, Eric Rasmussen, Steve Zungul, Branko Segota, Preki, Pato Margetic, Kai Haaskivi and Craig Allen...
That's pretty cool, Headhunter, who'd you play for? By the way, I just found the first two sets of MISL cards Pacific released in the 80s. ('87 and '88, I think.) I'll scan some of them at some point, it's just a question of when I'll be able to find time to do it. Are those cards worth anything? I assume not.
glad you brought those cards up....does anyone know how many sets there were? i have a bunch of those cards myself and i need to sit down and organize them...and see what years they started and ended in the MISL and NPSL...
I had a set of those cards as well - from the 87-88 season I believe. Unfortunately they were long forgotten at my parents house in California! This makes me want to check and see if they threw them away, sold them at a garage sale, or still have them. BTW - The photos on here are very cool! Kinda brings to life what I mainly only heard on San Diego Sockers radio broadcasts. With the exception of the pictures I saw in my soccer digest subscriptions, which had pretty good coverage of the MISL back in the day.
Those Pacific sets were made until about 1993 and are readily available on Ebay. Not expensive at all! Here's to you, josh242.
Here are a few I just scanned from Missile programs. 1980 All Stars 1979-80 MISL Champion NY Arrows The big guns
This is a cool shot. Steve Pecher, Kansas City Comets intros, 1984-85 The Wings always had the leggiest cheerleaders! (The program is from 1985 but the photo's from 1981-82.)
