chivas is greatful to his new friends funkfoot, sorum, gocaps, K, victory, GrillMaster, chico, and etcheverito. Was great seeing Mark Simpson there too. I still can't figure out why K was standing up on the table yelling "we want Talon". Oh well, chivas enjoyed the fist fight over whether Thomas Rongen employed "total futbol" concept at United. I also enjoyed the design-a-new-Talon-costume-by-throwing-food-at-the-wall-contest. I'm not sure the burger on the butt concept will fly however funkfoot.
Remind me to post on the drunk thread. I'm glad to have met a bunch of folks I didn't already know and to hook up with those I do.
great stuff tonight. came out of there having seen highlights of the three seasons before i started really following dcu, which was great, and it was great talking to all the people i'd never met before. also came out of there with a considerable amount of cigarette smoke on my jersey, which my parents weren't too fond of but whatever. man though if that smells bad then it's a good thing i've never been to the swamp, 'cuz i don't wanna come anywhere near concentrated metrostink... yuck.
Good to see some old friends and meet a few new supporters...good thing I arrived a bit late otherwise I might be really drunk. It was great to meet Mark Simpson and I wish him the best. He was always a quality keeper with heart. The Barra salutes you! The season can't arrive soon enough.
big ups on seeing my brother marshall, too long since we got together. great to talk with so many great folks and meeting new people. big thanks to joe and the guys, great time. the wife also wanted me to say thanks.
I'm sorry I missed it but I would've added nothing but a bunch of flu germs so you guys are all better off that I couldn't make it.
It was great to put some faces with screen names and have a good time at Summer's tonight .. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting a bunch of the folks and catching up with some old friends (especially GrillMaster) who I hadn't seen in some time. My personal highlight was talking with Sormun on his theory that Hudson's coaching tactic of letting his players have sex the night before a game could ruin their hopes of a championship. I definitely enjoyed that entire conversation. And of course, the rendition of the cowbell story was world class. Great stuff. Ed
A great, great time tonight. All of the usual friends showed up and I met some new ones too. Special thanks to the usual crew (Victory, Etcheverrito, General Apathy, etc, etc, the rest of you know who you are) for helping to make the night complete. We should get together at Summers more often.
As usual I got there very late, but it was good to see all the peeps. Special thanks to Entropy for picking me up (literally, picking me up) as is custom. At least he didn't throw me to the ground this time as well. Also, it was a pleasure to meet Sormun, and to find out what section he sits in at home games. Also, let the record show that I was witness to a bet between Sormun and Dave Brother. Details to be disclosed as the betting parties see fit.
i guess it was a good happy hour, i spent most of this morning "kneeling in front of the throne", its been a while since that happened, i guess now i know why.
it is pretty scary when the drinking is done and marshall is the most sober guy! yikes big thanks to K for the effort but i still say we need MORE COWBELL chico, where the hell did you go?
Whoa! Dave Brother appeared? Sheesh, when I left Dave Brother last night, at a certain downtown sports bar, I think I coulda bet him on the existence of the Easter Bunny. Not that I would have, 'cuz I thought I saw the EB in the bottom of my Bud bottle... -G. Rex
See, I told you I needed to post on the drunk thread. A sober me would have chosen my words more carefully.
Great Happy Hour. It was good seeing all the usual suspects and meeting some new ones. Had a long conversation with sormun and actually agreed on some things. Props to Mark Simpson for coming out, he's a class act and I wish him the best. I hadn't seen my highlight tape in a while and it was great standing there watching it with the gang cheering goals from 5 years ago. I have a pretty good idea why R&B was yelling at his shoes this morning. Is that Jamesons as smooth coming up as it is going down? Anyways, I walked across the street to the Irish joint to find my buddies, and one of them was a train wreck. We poured him in my car and I drove him home. We gotta do this again soon.
It was a great happy hour. The surroundings were familiar, we got great service, we were able to watch Chico's highlight tape, it was a wonderfully diverse crowd as well. Had a good time rapping with Sormun -- too bad we couldn't hang out and smoke our cigars. Mark Simpson was all smiles and said he was out to thank the fans for all their support. We sang two choruses of "We love you Simpson" about an hour apart. Mark didn't have any tips on who the new keeper coach would be. He also didn't want to reveal who he was going to sign for the Mariners, but it will be a couple of familiar names he implied. He got a GREAT deal to go to Va Beach. One of the most interesting things I learned from Mark is that the coaching staff had been working late for several days with more midnight oil likely this coming week. He mentioned getting a call from Curt Onalfo at 4:30 in the morning to discuss some player issues and ask for input on player movement. Yet another reason to be smiling last night! I conveyed the appreciation that I've heard from many fans for his instruction of St Nick on positional play. He was pleased that we had noticed his impact. I also told him how he was my favored keeper in 2001 (he had a winning record that year). I got to check out his MLS Cup ring (1996 I think). He averred that Nicky could do some more training. Apparently our St Nick has a problem that I am quite familiar with -- it's very easy to put on weight around the middle. Of course his is maybe 3 pounds. Mrs. Simpson is a remarkable lass in her own right. Very, very personable with a killer smile and beautiful to boot! They made a very attractive couple as they smiled their way through the entire happy hour. We have a standing invitation from Mr. and Mrs. to a barbeque when we make a road trip to Va Beach (technically, Hampton). We've just got to give them a little notice. Mark said he would do the cooking, too! To all me BS homies, thanks for the pleasure of your company. It was a fine night. Sorry the cowbell rendition got a little long-winded, but I was in a groove. WriterEd, Nancy B, Red&Black and others were very patient. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Footer and Mrs. Footer. Man, there were a lot of women fans at the happy hour! Very cool, reminded me of the Barra. Red & Black -- you've got to drink more water later on in the evening, compadre. You won't be worshiping at the throne so much. Glad you're feeling better now! GM
Sormun, I love you man, but don't tell my wife that theory - I still play in a rec league, you know! Senora Funkfoot and I enjoyed hanging out with everyone, meeting folks and matching screen names with faces. And thanks to Summers. It was my first visit to the legendary establishment and a lot of fun. When's the next one?
that's smooth both ways my friend. i was down, but i am slowly returning to life. good thing i was the designated driver, i only had 5 shots then.
I'm glad I found a job last March, but man, I hate the fact that I have to frickin' work late all the time. Wish I could've been there, sounds like it was fun.
