Brilliant strike by Twellman. Great way to comeback from a horrible performance last week.

Yes. However, I'm really getting sick of the horrible officiating-- the missed offsides call on Moore's goal (happy as I was to see it), and especially that flying headbutt by Suarez to Twellman in the box. The fact that it didn't even draw a warning for Suarez, while Kante got sent off for what looked like an accident, annoyed the hell out of me.

Of course, the Revs still picked up a very convincing first win of the season, so I guess I don't have that much to complain about.

Sure wish I could have seen this match. After last week I needed to see the Lads look like the team they can be. Great to have JMM and TnT score in the same match, I look forward to comments by those who saw the match.

    I had to do it

After reading the crap on the Burn pages and seeing more then a few call TnT Taylor "the tool" Twellman, I had to rub it in. THe name of the thread is "Tool Time."

I think it's great when TnT got to stick it to the Burn fans that knock him to win the game. I'm only sorry that I backed off my original Rev Guess of NE 2-1 (a five point game) and came away with zero points as a result. Oh well. i'm happier that they won then to get the points.

JMM is the man! He makes all the difference in the world and this means that picking a winner (Rev Gues) will now be hard.

Brown continues to amaze me. He made two or three world class saves.

Defensive marking sucked and caused 1 goal and almost several more.

    What an entertaining match!

JMM may have been offside but what was truly horrible was that here was no single camera angle showing it.

Passing was much improved along with creating spaces.
One could tell these guys wanted to prove that the last weeks’ performance was an anomaly.

JMM provided badly needed creativity and imagination and at times toyed with Dallas defense.

Shalrie Joseph once again provided midfield pressure and added offensive edge.
Still a few errant passes but he is settling in nicely.

Another stellar match for Adin Brown who had tremendous saves.

And TNT is a world-class finisher!

Great game! Joe-Max was everywhere. Joey played well and kept his cool. Brilliant strike by TnT. Ralston was back to his old form. Joseph adds an offensive threat and seems likely to take Hernandez's starting spot. I really didn't see anything to complain about, other than the refs.

The Revs created lots of chances, and had they lost we'd be discussing those missed opportunities.

I watched the Crew play today and they did nothing. Looked like a different team than the one we saw last week. The Metros forced everything to the outside and shut down Martino. McBride did very little, and got few touches.

    A very encouraging evening.

Dallas looked like us last week.
    JMM - TnT - Ralston...wow!
    Joseph...much better.
Brown...big as usual, although he looked like Causey on that Kreis goal. :)

Burn don't look like they have adjusted to the carpet yet.

    Nice win boys!

Fantastic night. Joe-Max was toying with the Dallas defence at times and a great strike by Twellman.

The one person who impressed me tonight was Shalrie Joseph. After he got his touch together during the opening minutes I thought he played well in his midfield role. We're still playing the long balls but at least we now have some semblance of a midfield.

How nice is it to see 2 very creative players like Moore and Ralston making chances and feeding the ball to Twellman? Good to see the defence back in shape after last weeks debacle, despite Kante's ejection.

Agreed on the refereeing situation. The near side AR looked like he didn't want to be out there. And I think Suarez could have also just as easily picked up 2 cautions.

    - What do you know? Maybe we don't have to drastically alter the entire makeup of the team after one bad performance.

    - Gee, anyone think JMM makes a difference when it comes to possessing the ball?

    - Don't know if JMM was offside on his goal or not, and I don't really care. Let's face it - we're due some breaks. Good job by Joe-Max to stuff it by Cassar, though.

    - Terrific shot from TnT. But I think we can point a finger to Jeff Cassar for a bit of bad positioning.

    - That's the kind of gritty, gutty effort we saw from the Revs last year. It's nice to see it back.

    - If the Costa Rican midfielder they're scouting is for real, we're gonna be very tough with JMM and TnT up top. Is there a pair of harder-working forward in the league? In the western hemisphere?

    - Big ups to Shalrie Joseph, who nearly scored twice, and generally played pretty well in the midfield, where he's still out of position. I think Adrian and Brad said it right - he's raw, but he's clearly a talent.

    - Is it me, or does Daouda Kante not look quite as fast as he did last year? Yeah, Johnson's fast, but both of those yellows could have been avoided had Daouda positioned himself better.

    - So, Matt Reis - how do you like the view from the bench? Get used to it. Of course, that's no fault of Reis... but Adin Brown is THE MAN.

    After further review

    1) Nice REV possession, especialy in the first half. Rev's had an adequate mix of midfield possesion and over the top balls. Ralston, JMM & TnT work well together. I'd like to see how either Noonan or Moore-part deux would add more offensive punch opposite Ralston.

    2) I think JMM was offsides on the first goal. That or he is the world's fastest human over 7 yards.

    3) The lines at Dragon Stadium make for one UGLY looking soccer match.

    4) Shalrie Joseph is a diamond in the rough.

    5) Adin Brown is awesome. Please stay healthy.

    6) The Dallas attack is generally toothless. I expected more from Vaca & O'Brien. Nice goal by Kreis.

    7) JMM will be the MVP at the end of the season. Great ball control, nice passes and tremendous hustle. He's a great role model for TnT.

    8) "Rusty Pierce has no idea of what to do with the ball." ~ This from my 11 year old after RP had a deep overlapping run in the second half.

    9) The look on Jeff Cassar's face after TnT's goal,

    "What the f***!"

    10)

    Nice win for the Rev's.

Seeing how many great chances the Revs missed (and the fact that this one almost got away) I can imagine how Crew fans must have felt last week when they couldn't quite get the killer goal past Adin Brown.

Can't add much to previous comments, except that I think Twellman may have to start expanding his repetoire. He's not going to be the automatic go-to guy on attack anymore.

I'm going to get the shootout package so I can watch the Revs.

Shalrie Joseph was devastating for the New York Freedoms last season. I think he scored 8 goals or something like that, and played as a central defender most of the time.

He's going to be something to watch - and hopefully he'll keep Hernandez quiet.

No question a much better performance after last week. Well actually I don't think they could have played worse!!

They were a lot more composed and were able to get decent chances. JMM has added maturity to his game and really brought an element that the team needed desperately. He was able to not only look for his offense (as he did very well his first time around), but now also looked to create for his running mates. This is what this team needed.

Joseph, although looking a bit slow at times, did a much better job both offensively and defensively. He does need work, but his competition really doesn't inspire much hope. (Sorry DH supporters.)

The defense is very scary!! If "The Cat" Brown weren't back there, this game would have been much diffrent! Everyone looks too slow to keep up with the faster players (3rd game in a row teams have taken them to task with speed rushes). In turn, they have to grab and hold. When it is in the open field, it will get called, as it did with Kante today. They need to address the positioning and play back there to put less pressure on Brown.

A huge win. Now hopefully they can begin to draw some momentuum and gain confidence like last year. Like last week, this is just one win, so they need to show up next game and add to this. It is easier to do when you are confident.

Here is hoping we can rip off a little streak to allow guys to concentrate on improving and not worry about commenting on critisims. Also a good showing would allow SN and management to find the right player to add to the mix. A knee jerk reaction by them at this point, could really hurt this team much more in the long run. Dealing with some poor showings due to lack of training due to the weather, will improve with time and work!!

A very impressive performance by the Revs. It certainly is ironic that after Hernandez shoots his mouth off about the timid style of the Revs under Nicol, he is suspended and may be on his way off the team, yet Nicols apparently agreed! Tonight the Revs threw waves of players into the attack all game long - when tied, when ahead, after losing the lead, after going down a man, all game long. I was glad to see it. My team lost but at least someone came to play. Dallas on the other hand, did nothing to earn my price of admission.

We saw some nice goals from Twellman and Kries, but I'm still scratching my head on that goal by JMM. Adin Brown was the difference .

    Bunker and counter not!

A tight match with classy goals by JMM, Kreis, and TnT. The game was won in the midfield, which was unrecognizable from last week. After their tubercular performances against the village people, Ralston, Cullen and Kamler were inspired, though SR is still not back to his all-star level. Shalrie Joseph was easily good enough to start next week. He had a couple errant passes early, but seemed to grow as the game went on. He almost scored twice, once with his head, and played very good D. Daniel who?

The biggest single difference from last week - Joe-Max Moore. In one game he has erased whatever lingering doubts might have remained about fitness or quality. Honestly, how many times have we read recently that he might turn out to be a 1998 player in a 2003 league? I suppose it's too early to gloat over one performance, but he fits the Rev team like a hand in a glove; touch, vision, even pace enough to make it interesting.

Adin Brown clap clap clapclapclap. Perhaps I should say - Eastern Division All-star keeper Adin Brown.

For Dallas, RO'B was immense, perhaps the best player on the field for either team. Eddie Johnson was threatening, and is getting gradually more frightening - it was fun watching Pierce trying to get into his head. Burn has a great back line; I suspect Nicol spent some time devising a way to pull them out of their shape. It worked in the first half, but the Revs couldn't finish for beans. Vaca had his moments, but Chivas was strangely quiet. I have never understood what Dallas fans see in Deering. this game just reinforced my perception that Burn would in fact be much better off with DH.

Pierce and Heaps were at least adequate against a good attacking team. Kante had an off night - I could sense that second yellow coming. JF had one blunder, but was otherwise OK.

Very entertaining match considering the pitch it was played on. JMM and Twellman are going to cause tons of problems for MLS defenders this year if they both stay healthy.

Joseph was solid too. The team played with a lot of confidence and Adin Brown again came up huge.

I'm glad they pulled out the win because they deserved it, though Kreis' goal was every bit as impressive as Twellman's.

    Yahoo a win!!

Well, I guess that means we are going to win the whole thing now, right!??

    Or....is it just a win?

I vote for the second option. Wish I could have seen it...the event log is certainly interesting enough.

Now we have another nickname for Taylor ...Taylor 'the tool man' Twellman - he can fix anything. Especially some of those mouthy Dallas trolls!! Let's see that is five goals in three games...if there is one team that should respect TnT it is Dallas....

Glad to hear that Shalrie showed up today. Interested to hear that we lack 'positioning' in the central defender role. I have always said that Llamosa is important to us..I think he still is.

great goal, but that Orlando Perez goal was a bomb, and it beat Fat Tony so that has to get it some extra votes.

I think that lowers the quality of the goal. Sure, it might've been a great strike, but come on... it's Tony "I let Chris Albright make me look like a total doofus" Meola.

    Offside??

Unfortunately the camera angles at Dallas aren't the wame as we have in Foxboro or we'd have had a much better view of Moore's position before the pass on his first half goal.

After watching the replays on the goal, one can reasonably believe that since the ball was somewhat lofted and it did take a little time to get to Moore that indeed he could have been 6 or 7 yards beyond the Dallas defense when the ball arrived at his feet. Remember that this was not a ball with a great deal of pace on it AND that the assistant referee is standing in line with the 2nd to last defender and would have clearly saw Moore if he were that offside. Also, notice the reaction of the Dallas players. Sure they had their hands up in the air indicating offside (like ALL defenders do when they get caught with their pants down) but after the goal there was no arguement by the keeper. He seemed more miffed (at his defenders??) than anything else. If Moore was clearly offside, I'd have expected a big reaction from Cessar (sp?)

well the play "appeared" to be offside as the slide tackle two weeks "appeared" to be a red card. Great to have JMM back. TJ MAX connection!

The way I'm thinking, people like to see Fat Tony give up goals, any time any place except if he's wearing the red, white and blue.

    Well put....

Sometimes MLS taketh and sometimes MLS giveth away...

You got a break on that one.. You can thank the Burn for having games at a high school stadium for the reason why no decent camera angle was available for the JMM "goal".. I think simple logic can tell you that by the time JMM got the ball, he was easily 7 or 8 yards offside and the pass only took 2 seconds at the most to reach him.. He must be Carl Lewis fast to time that one... Good break though, any team would take it if given to them..

Re: Re: Post Match Thought - Revs vs Burn [R]

During MLS Wrap Harkes said he thought JMM was offside because of his post goal celebration. The facial expression wasn't "YEAH, I scored" but more like "I'm going to get away with this". kudos to Harkes for that catch.
