Article written by Rich Campbell, decent roundup, I think some Board folks were quoted in there. In watching the last bit of highlights on Comcast, my hat was in there.
It was good to see everyone who went out to LA back safe and sound. I missed out on touching the trophy in LA so I'm glad I got to touch it tonight. The PA was so full of echo I half expected to hear the Lou Gehrig "Today, I am the luckiest man on the face of the earth" speech. Carol Schwartz and Nellie were impossible to understand. I'm sorry I missed getting a chance to say farewell to Earnie, but I heard he was one of the first to leave. This will be an off-season to savor. Let's hope DC puts out a year-end highlight DVD.
"With the outline of a baseball diamond painted on the playing field, approximately 500 D.C. United fans gathered at RFK Stadium last night to celebrate the team's victory in Sunday's MLS Cup. " well that guess earlier was about a thousand off haha ""This is a growing sport in our area, and it's a real morale boost and economic engine," Williams said. "That's why we proudly support it, and that's why we're very excited about building a new stadium." keep riding the wave williams ha
Anyone watch CBS news tonight? I watched all the local news coverage of the event but CBS had the funniest comment: 'You know what I love about DC United fans? They're always drunk!' The anchors looked a little shocked, and he had to clarify: 'Well, Im sure they werent ALL drunk. They just acted that way, but they are so passionate about the team.' Good stuff!
Maybe he saw our massive keg This was a great night, I felt like such a little kid out there seeing the players up close and interacting with them for the first time.
I have to say, champagne and smoking cigars in lot 8 was pretty damn swank. Major props to Scruggsy for going above and beyond the call with the keg, and for everyone who brought to contribute...just another reason we can call ourselves the best supporters in the league..
My last story for the night, I was with Mark and Andy and some person whose name escapes me (please forgive me if you're on here, Im terrible with names!). Anywho, this female in question turned green with envy when I told her I got to meet Dema tonight. I had no idea Dema was such a chick magnet! Hilarious. Im so sad that this was it for the season though! The off-season party cant come quick enough..
And there's your new tag line: "Four Cups and we're all drunk!" Dude, you were about 4 people away from me to my right along the rail. Great job starting the chants.
Cheers! P.S Its probably good that Joe was standing next to me, he stopped me from shouting some uh, rather unfriendly things at the Mayor
My bad, I just assumed it was Goff without looking at the byline. I imagine Senor Goff is in Cowlumbus for the WCQ.
That was a good catch Natty. Very funny. the guy kind of backtracked and slightly apolgized for saying it after the lead in. --At first I was insulted/annoyed figuring the dick just missed the idea that we are passionate but then I kind of sheepishly grinned and realized he WAS right The other channels all had stuff too and if you went (like me ) from 9 CBS to 4 NBC to 7 ABC ypou got to see most if not all of each segment they had. Short bits but nice. Comcast had the most and best shots of the Barra group. I saw Gino and his sister quite well on one of the channels. I also managed to get them all taped on DVD. Maybe at some point in the offseason we can all pass some tapes around.
Earnie was gone early because he wasn't supposed to be there at all--he had a wisdom tooth pulled and they didn't want him to go. But he wanted to be there for the fans one last time.
