    Trade One
jazic ($114,250) to toronto for dunivant ($99,750)

dunivant and jazic are interchangeable in my opinion. neither one is appreciably better than the other. other than that it's all positives:

    • dunivant is cheaper by $15K
    • dunivant is four years younger
    • dunivant doesn't take up a senior international spot

this allows us to move up randolph to left mid. it provides a speedy, dynamic and defensively solid combination along the left.

it allows us to move martino to a defensive central mid where he can platoon with harmse. i have this feeling that martino at defensive-central-mid could be a move like albright to right-back. martino has the tenacity and toughness necessary, he's got great vision, but he sucks in front of goal. at DM those responsibilities are lessened.

    salary cap -$15,000

    Trade Two
boswell $30,870 picked up by san jose in expansion draft and traded to LA for glinto $50,000 and roberts $30,000 (remember yallop sent ugo packing because he thought roberts was the better prospect)

benefits: we now have three strong central defenders, two of whom could be the central pairing for this club for a decade (boswell/harden) with xavier to mentor them for his final year with the club.

    salary cap -$50,000

well this one isn't happening. d.c. united just protected boswell.

now delving in to the highly unlikely, but theoretically possible

    Trade Three
cannon $192,000 to rsl for sturgis $107,000

rsl desperately need a better keeper

    salary cap -$92,000 (est)

    Trade Four
mathis ??? and veris $30,000 to chivas for guzan$50,000

chivas needs some creativity in the middle, mathis could provide that. they could also use some cover in the back... maybe we can convince them veris is actually oneywu?

    salary cap -$50,000 (est)

    Trade Five
    klein/kirk 187,00/111,500 and gray/vagenas 85,000/131,875 and harmse 40,800 for ronnie o'brien 258,000

expensive trade for us in terms of giving up a log of quality. i'd say ideal would be klein, vagenas and harmse for a total of $312,000 in cap space... mo gets another canadian and quality central mid, plus a veteran right-back/mid in klein. gray/vagenas simply provides cover in the middle.

    salary cap -$55,000

so the ideal lineup would be:

    Code:
                        guzan
    albright - xavier - harden/boswell - dunivant
                  sturgis/martino
              o'brien - beckham - randolph
                        donovan
                     [new striker]

we save almost $350K in salary cap to spend on a new striker

Dash - some great trade ideas in there for sure. Nice research and effort. This really is a wishlist though especially if Lalas is pulling the moves still. One thing I really like, is the overall trades free up enough salary cap for another quality and important player.

In layman's terms: Hire Dashiel as Galaxy GM.

This is the one that would bother me the most. I think Glinton proved to be AT LEAST a reliable Super Sub down the stretch and Roberts proved himself at least a reliable backup if needed.

Only problem with this is Arsenal have their sights set on on Guzan and Sturgis keeps popping up on trade rumor lists for Euro teams.

I keep throwing out Khano Smith from the Revs as our left sided mid. He seems like a decent mid. Anybody else agree?

I would also love to find a way to get Ugo back in LA.

LA should steal Cooper from Dallas, he'd be great on the end of beckham's crosses.

dashiel I love how 2 of the trades are to get Galaxy players back. Which means we should have never traded them

u think we're going to get the MLS goalie of the year and future USMNT goalie off of out most hated rivals in exchange for Veris (Who showed nothing this year) and Mathis who is out of contract with the league in 2 months?

    Pretty hopeful.

I like the logic behind your trade #1. Seems to be win-win for both teams.

no, hence the "highly unlikely" preface.

Supposedly Bravo wants to find a holding mid, a fast left midfielder, and a proven striker.

If you look at the expansion list, you'll see a few names jump out. Want a pacy winger? How about Houston's Corey Ashe? Need a D-Mid? Carroll from DC fits the bill.

Perhaps LA will be swinging a big trade with SJ soon?

Anyone given Sammy Ochoa much thought? He hasn't gotten much face-time with the Tecos in the Mexican League, and seems to be getting restless. He has also expressed interest in playing in MLS -I think he's worth at least a look no?

Does anyone know if the SJ expansion draft will be live on MLSnet or anywhere at 10am today?

Can't imagine it would be live. My guess is that SJ just faxes MLS HDQ a list of players they want since they are the only participants. :D

The sad thing is, I'd still watch it.

But yeah, it was more exciting back when there were two teams. If it's Seattle and St. Louis in 2009 it should be fun.

Speaking of which, Garber is talking about two new teams in 2009 and two in 2010. No team in MLS is going to be able keep any depth during this period.

It may be a pipe dream, but I am hoping that a modest roster expansion and a less-than-modest cap expansion result from the labor negotiations which will start next year. That could happen, looking forward to a 2009 expansion draft that doesn't just denude the other clubs.

sure they could use the creativity, but what they really need is a guy on thier team named cletus. it fits thier image so well

I posted this on a couple other threads, but just wanna throw this idea out there. Wasn't there a rumor swirling around about us getting Ivan Guerrero? Now it seems that a trade is possible in order to get him. Trading one of the Canadians (Jazic) for Guerrero seems fair to me. Keeping Pavon knowing another Honduran could be on the way might be what they were thinking when they protected him. Can he show us the Gold Cup form with one of his fellow national teamers on the squad? As a prospect I definitely like him as he would play the left mid spot for sure, and Randolph would continue to play left back. What do you guys think?

Goff was dropping hints that Roberts is going to be traded and Carroll is going to be traded. 1+1 = ??

I don't know what I think about that.

    or maybe Ivan Guerrero.

SJ is saying they don't want to trade their DP, so I'm trying to figure out what we would want from them.

Besides allocation money or picks, which are boring.
