With the summer window fast approaching, and the other Roster thread only for updates ... figured we could use a thread to discuss new possible additions.

Apparently Danish striker Mads Junker trialed with the Revs (in Danish).

Just read his wikipedia page, he scammed his teammates in poker games years ago. Sounds like a great locker room guy. The goal scoring record, on the other hand, is pretty good.

The operative phrase is "years ago". It looks like he's cleaned up his act and hasn't an another incident since. As far as I can tell he's only had one major injury in his entire career. I think he has a pretty good chance of doing well in MLS if we sign him.

That's a good point, maybe we could get him on a bargain deal if the off field issue/s from the past scare away other clubs who may be interested. If he's interrogated about it and Heaps and Burns are convinced he's changed, it could end up being a great capture for us if they do offer him a contract.

Now that Nyassi has played in a reserve game, I wonder if he will come off the DL soon, and if so, will he be released soon after?

The only reason I wouldn't want him to be released would be if we don't sign Junker or another striker and Heaps would play him at striker before Brettscnheider. If that doesn't apply, he should be cut.

I don't think Heaps is ready to give up on Nyassi quite yet. He was talking up using him as a forward in preseason. I'm willing to give him one more chance on his past flashes of greatness, even though he can't strike a shot on frame to save his life.

If that means no Brettschneider I'm fine with that

Yeah, I've never heard of an "ankle sprain" with a 5+ month recovery time. It's pretty strange.

Regarding the Rangers Three, I think MLS has a shot at Bocanegra (older player) and Bedoya (unproven commodity) if they decide to leave, but Edu is in his prime, an entrenched member of the USMNT and has attracted high-level transfer interest before. He probably goes to one of the French teams he's been linked to for a while.

How about David Limbersky? MLSsoccer had and article about potential Euro 2012 players in MLS and they suggested this 28 year old Czech Left Back for the Revs.

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/06/14/throw-5-euro-players-who-make-sense-mls

He's a current Plzen player. I saw him against Schalke in the EL this year and he's a solid attacking player. He can also play LW in a pinch (although we don't really need help at that position).

The question is, will we splash cash for a LB, even one that adds a whole lot to the offence? Would we be better spending that money on a young Shalrie replacement?

Edit: Can we change the name of the thread? Something with "summer transfers" in it? The current title is a bit confusing

I think that Limbersky (or a player like him) is a brilliant idea for the Revs. I think with the system Heaps has in place, attacking backs on the flanks is actually a huge part of it (watch how much of the ball Tierney and Alston see per game, it's a lot) and if someone can pull that dimension off at a high level, it would stretch defenses like crazy and make the Revs possibly the best offense in the league.

So yeah, someone send this article to Burns (since who knows if he actually pays attention to MLS at large :whistling:).

The revs are looking at a guy named Junker?

    The jokes write themselves.

I actually would like that move (jokes aside). Junker is a solid Eredivisie veteran. He's the type of player that's continuously improved as he's aged like a good wine or Clint Dempsey. He's just on the wrong side of 30, but if Heaps is committed to two strikers, this would be a good pickup.

Moreno is probably done if they're looking at strikers.

That's cool that he's played in Holland, I really had never heard anything about him til this thread.

Agree that it doesn't say much for Moreno sticking around long (which makes sense to most on this board).

It also makes me wonder about Runstrom. Is he still hurt? He didn't make the bench against Chicago or DC. Durability seems to be an issue with most of our internationals, every single year. It's ridiculous.

Runstrom just came off the Injury Report on Tuesday. I don't think durability with him is the issue, so much as he's apparently just not any good. He'll probably be cut to make room for a summer signing.

I think Moreno, Runstrom, and Lozano are on thin ice; the first two because of performances, the latter because of high salary.

MLS demand perfection for their internationals. You want every single one to be either a promising youngster or a solid contributor to the first 11. Does anyone know when the salary cap cutoff date is?

Right it's definitely performance, but I'd imagine durability factors in somewhere if he just got off the injury list.

If they can't push the first 11 they really aren't good enough for this league - especially if they're pulling down a big salary. Lozano is a great example. It's great that after less than 20 years we can say that.

He's a Twellman type...Same guts and scoring style, with a touch better talent! Can't even imagine us going for him..although if they did, I might re-buy season tix, even @Gillette!

I'd rather have Junker to be honest. I rate him higher, and hes younger.

Whats so great about Shevcheknko? He plays for Kyiv, but he only logged 16 league matches this year. He plays for Ukraine, cool, but at a neutral location they're the worst team in their Euro group. They're ranked 52nd in the FIFA rankings, and 28th in the ELO rankings.

Mads Junker is a lock starter on Roda, a mid table Dutch team. He had 7 goals and 12 assists in league play this year. He may not be heavily involved with the Danish national team, but he's definitely in the pool. If there was an injury in the striker pool on the Danish Euro squad, Junker would be the first call they made.

I'm sorry, but Mads Junker is the better choice.
