If Gio makes the team, this might be a decent lineup. I would put Moreno in the Midfield Wing. Our bench seems a bit weak though.

    Mathis Gio

    Sheppard Rosas Moreno

    Williams

    Jolley Pope Mestre Ziade

    Howard

    Subs
    F-MAGEE, LEBLANC

    M-LISI, CLARK, ARENA

    D-ADDO, REGAN

    G-GRAFER

First of all Moreno on the right mid wing won't work. He is a natural striker and as a midfielder he is much more prone to injury. Second, from what I heard Mestre has no chance of making the team. Third, Gio was always a threat off the bench. Let's keep it that way. Fourth, Jeff Moore has been playing right mid so far but I would prefer him in central defensive mid where he proved that he hastles the playmaker of every team. Plus Williams has yet to sign with the league which doesn't bother me any. Arena can back Moore up.

    MY STARTERS:
    Moreno--Mathis
    Sheppard--Rosas--Clark--??? (Waiver Draft)
    Moore
    Jolley--Pope--Ziadie
    THo

    or

    Moreno--Mathis
    Sheppard--Rosas--??? (Waiver Draft)
    Moore
    Regan--Pope--Jolley--Ziadie

    3-5-2

Yesterday, during the scrimmage (yes I know it was a scrimmage) Bradley sent out at 3-5-2 in the first half with a lot of the first team players. A back three of Regan, Pope, and Jolley seems pretty likely to me.

The midfield could be Sheppard and Ziadie on the wings (both having the ability to drop back and make it a 4-4-2 or a 5-3-2) with Rosas, Garnero, and Moore in the middle. For a little more defense we could go with Rosas, Moore, and R. Williams (if and when he signs) to go with the shortest central midfield in the history of professional soccer.

Up top obviously it would be Mathis and Moreno. Unless both are injured there is no way Gio will be starting for this team. He will be there to score garbage goals in the 88th minute and to work with the younger guys like Magee and Gaven.

I think we'll end up with a 3-5-2 to start the season. If Mathis still isn't ready to start due to the surgery, I could imagine a 3-6-1 with Rosas and Garnero playing behind Moreno, Sheppard and Zaidie on the wings, and take your pick of Williams/Moore/Addo to play in the D-Mid sports. Jolley, Pope and Regan will start in the back.

Obviously this assumes that everyone signs, which is probably unlikely. I would also say that Clark and Magee were starting if they are available, but I believe they'll likely be with the U-20s to begin the season.

    Here's my guess:

    ------------Moreno-----Mathis-----------

    --------Mario-----------Garnero----------
    Sheppard-------Williams----------Ricardo

    ------Perez-------Pope------Jolley-------

I'm guessing Metros trade for Orlando "Flaco" Perez, and that he and Tim Regan share the left back duties. Regan as a pure defender and Perez for an attacking left back in a 442. If both Garnero and Mario are acquired, then Perez probably doesn't start, but if only one of them, then Perez fits as a left back in a 4 man back line.

    Digitaltron,

the trade forperez may happen, and if it does i assure you, he wont be starting, count the # of times he started for metro, he wont be starting.

Personally i hope we dont get him, he's good and all, but not needed and just a waste of roster space, not cap space, but roster space.
my guess the line-up will be 3-5-2 with:

    Cleetus----Jaimie
    Sheppard---Mario---supplemental draftie/Lisi
    Clark------Moore/Arena
    Regan-------Pope------Jolley
    Timmy
    ----------------------------------------------
but im hoping for an attacking 4-3-1-2 with:

    Cleetus----Jaimie
    Mario
    Sheppard-------Moore------Lisi/suppl. Draftie
    Ziadie------Regan------Pope-------Jolley
    Timmy
    ------------------------------------------------
Thats what i would like to see come
    April 12.
    but that'll never happen

Since this is all just throwing darts at a board, here is my take. This is obviously assuming the Metros sign Richie Williams, Rosas, Garnero, Sheppard AND Gio Savarese. That sounds damn near impossible but here' one way the team lines up

    ---------Mathis---------Moreno---------

    -----------------Rosas-----------------

    Sheppard-------------------------Ziadie

    ----------Garnero------Clark------------

    Jolley------------Pope-------------Regan

    ----------------Howard-----------------

I definitely see Ricardo Clark taking over for Williams after a few weeks with the team. Either way, Clak starts by May.

Now, if Bradley trades for Orlando Perez, you could see this lineup:

    ---------Mathis---------Moreno---------

    -----------------Rosas-----------------

    Sheppard-------------------------Ziadie

    -----------------Clark-----------------

    Perez------Pope--------Regan-----Jolley

    ----------------Howard-----------------

I think Ziadie is better suited on the wing in a 3-5-2 rather than a 4-4-2 so if Bradley goes to a 4-4-2 perhaps you'll see Garnero out wide and Clark at D-Mid. You could also see Jeff Moore out wide. To be honest, I don't see how Richie Williams fits into the plans. You can't win with two munchkins in central midfield (And spare me the examples of it actually working.) As for Savarese, I see him as a first forward off the bench (especially if Clint is missing time for U.S. games), unless he wows Bradley. If so you could see 3-5-2 with Gio and Jaime up front and Mario and Clint as attacking mids. As for Clark, I know he will miss time early but he will have a job when he arrives.

Wow, first a racist bigot, now an idiot. Why don't you go away?

    Here from Perez's mlsnet profile:

Played a career-high 24 games and 1,948 minutes in 2001, starting 21 games at left back… Played every minute of the 2001 MLS Cup playoff series against Los Angeles… Has played in 39 MLS regular season games with the MetroStars over his first two seasons with the club, providing valuable depth on defense…

-In 2002, he played in 21 games, starting eleven.

Perez is starter quality in this league, and your lineup is awful. Lisi wide right is too slow and a defensive liability, even OZ realized that.

Looking at all your possible lineups I've got this to say - my sympathies. This team looks pathetic. Maybe next year.

And , of course, a team with Mike Petke manning the defense & Stoichkov up front should dominate.

The most entertaining thing about your team is Ray Hudson. By August, you will need him to suit up.

The only thing Petke will be manning is the water cooler and Stoichkov will be serving pina coladas in the locker room.

However, we are in a better situation than the Metros - things couldn't possibly be worse than it was last year.

So, DC traded an awful lot of talent for a guy who mans the water cooler then, didn't they?

We'll see where we stand at year's end.

Didn't I read that from a ton of DC fans in pre-season 2001? And then again before the 2002 season? Don't you guys ever get tired of being wrong? And just how many times have you seen Mario/Garnero/Sheppard play that makes you think this team is "pathetic"?

Back to the thread. I still think we're looking at a 3-5-2 this year unless the player pools changes significantly in the next few weeks.

    ...................Moreno......Mathis.....................
    .................Mario............Garnero..................
    ..Sheppard............Williams..............Ziadie.....
    ............Regan.........Pope.....Jolley................
    ...........................Howard..........................

Clark will push and possibly replace either Williams or Ziadie.

If Perez rejoins the team, I think he will push for Sheppard's spot more than Regan's.

Bradley didn't sound like he was too confident in Sheppard on the wing (NY Times). I was hoping that this guy would come in and show a good left foot & some grit on the wing. I guess we'll see.

I believe he planned to be here for one week and then had to return for a game for his club team. I wonder if he is still in camp?

    When is the next scrimmage?

    Bradley's Comments

As Metrosct said, Bradley did not seem confident in Sheppard on the flank. This might mean that we are looking at him in the middle of the defense or possibly the defensive midfield. I am thinking that it is likely that his only position would be at left back because it seems like our squad is turning more and more into a box midfield because of just how limited we are on the flanks... the fact that I even said that Sheppard and Ziadie were our best options on the flanks indicates this...

I don't know if we have the depth that everyone is talking about... I think that the back 3/4 will be fine with the personnel present currently. The midfield obviously is a huge concern as is the health of Mathis, maturity of Magee, and the fact that we have to hope that Moreno shows up all the time... lots of concerns on paper.

Thank goodness it is still February.
