    hey my first thread,

    ok, im a novice, here,

in terms of positions, whats the concensus regarding
the specific skills needed at each position.

ive been playing for a long time at always different spots
(accept forward) and i dont know what sort of natural tendencies are better suit to what position?

oh yah and what the best way to practice stoping the ball
when you get aggresive passes and what not?

Normally the people with speed and good endurance with Hard Range shots and good passing skills are midfielders. Midfielders are also good at reading the play normally.

Forwards have more speed but not as much endurance usually and are very good at ball handling and shooting.

Defenders are strong guys that like playing at the back and keeping the ball out of the net. They can read plays very well and are quick and know how to tackle.

To practice stopping the ball just juggle and then kick the ball at a wall, then stop it. Kick it hard at the wall then follow it in and try to control it like that.

For controlling balls, you try to cushion it. This is very hard to explain. The ball is rolling at you, once the ball touches the inside of your foot, you move the foot back quickly. Again, I can't explain it well.

imagine that someone just tossed you an egg (not boiled) or water balloon. you're job is to try to catch it without breaking it. as it comes to your hand, your going to pull your hand down and away. cushioning the ball requires the same movement with the foot, or thigh, or chest, etc. just try to pull back as the ball arrives. if you don't do this, especially if the ball is struck hard, it's going to bounce away from you.

also, try to keep balanced and your head or upper body over the ball while trapping a pass....
