Because it belongs to the tectonic plate of that continent. Continents move and collide with each other, that’s what causes earthquakes. Do a quick search and you'll find out quite easily that info on the net.
Nobody does. Politically belongs to Europe. It IS Europe. Ever since it’s discovery, it never was anything but European. Since geological studies we can tell it belongs to the African tectonic plate.
