At the super market today, I was waiting in the express lane when they opened a new register. I let the old-timer behind me go first in the new line. He said, "you're a nice man". I said thank you, and told him I wasn't in a hurry. He said, " In Portuguese, there is an expression for people like you...." "Devegar, se vai longe". Which I took to mean, "Slowly, one goes far." Anybody got some other Portuguese expressions?

After the girl got married, there were tons guys that wanted to marry her but when she was single, no one wanted her. I'm guessing pertendeiros assuming i have the correct spelling means candidates to marry.
