At the super market today, I was waiting in the express lane when they opened a new register. I let the old-timer behind me go first in the new line. He said, "you're a nice man". I said thank you, and told him I wasn't in a hurry.

He said, " In Portuguese, there is an expression for people like you...."

    "Devegar, se vai longe".

Which I took to mean, "Slowly, one goes far."

Anybody got some other Portuguese expressions?

Cada um puxa a brasa á sua sardinha.
Each person looks out for their own interests.

De pequenino se torce o pepino.
Teach ( smack ) your children while their young.

    Esperar é lá.
When going to an important event, we should go with enough time, so we can wait there.

This one's a little outdated, but it might come in handy next time we play Spain.

De Espanha, não vem bom vento nem bom casamento.

O cao mordeu a minha mau, eu bati no cabrao com meu pao.

My brother made that rhyme up. It used to make my mae mad!

Also, we would tell my mom that avo, avo and ovo (I don't have the accent things on my keyboard - grandpa, grandma and egg) were all the same thing since they sounded the same.

Ok, so they're not expressions. Epa fogo pa!

After the girl got married, there were tons guys that wanted to marry her but when she was single, no one wanted her. :D

I'm guessing pertendeiros assuming i have the correct spelling means candidates to marry.
