If you're going to place all the Port-American college players in this list , you'll need several pages. From the Ludlow High School alone (Ludlow Ma.) 10 or more players a year regularly go on to college teams (not all Big East caliber, of course). Bragging.

'Guese Talent List Grows & Grows!!
First, a continued thanks for all the e-mails to PortugueseSoccer.com! The lists just grows and grows every week!

If you recall, the list was created to help bring attention to 'Guese talent. Anybody born in Portugal, the son/daughter of Portuguese parents or immigrants are eligible, provided they play in the NCAA Div. I, II, III, NAIA, Community Colleges, Canadian League, or school league from any country.

Parents, coaches, brothers, sisters, girlfriends, etc., have all e-mailed to add to the list.

Surprisingly, I have been told, there are an estimated 60 male and about 20 female athletes still playing somewhere that are not on our list, but unless we get confirmation, we will not add anybody for privacy reasons or if their names just look "Portuguese".

I also do not have the time to track this information down, unless we get direct e-mails. Therefore, only those we know about (thanks to your e-mails) make the list. Yes, every e-mail is checked.

In Mid-November, an inaugural All-PortugueseSoccer.com Team team will be picked for the "current playing talent". Tentatively, in the USA, one team for men and one team for women, since there is plenty to choose. Per Canada, we have to see if we get more names to consider an all-star team for that country. However, elsewhere, is not looking good since the numbers are quite poor.

One father recently asked...How can we help our case to be on the inaugural PortugueseSoccer.com team? Simple, make sure the statistics on the team's websites are up-to-date and do not hesitate to have your Sports Information Director e-mail any information.

Who reads this list? To be honest, plenty of readers, as that page is the third-best visited page on the website, since August.

    UNSUNG HEROES
    2. Bertoni’s patience pays off

Being stuck as backup goalie is one of the most difficult situations for a college soccer player. Each season on the bench until the starter graduates can mean a year of eligibility lost.
Ryan Bertoni, who won a New York state high school title as a senior at Oswego Free Academy, arrived at Binghamton University in 2003 to discover that the Bearcats had also signed 22-year-old Scotsman Stefan Gonet.
Gonet’s 0.38 goals-against average was the lowest in the country in 2003 but he left after the 2004 season to return to Scotland, where he signed for Second Division club Morton. Bertoni, meanwhile, didn’t play in 2003 and was used in the field for eight of his nine appearances in 2004.
With Gonet gone, Bertoni won the starting job in goal and has a 0.59 goals-against average in 10 starts. Binghamton is 7-2-1 and one of the favorites to win the America East title.
"He's been great,” Graham Munro, the two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year, told the Binghamton Press & Sun, “especially in some big games."

    3. Bruch’s back!

Jessie Bruch could not have picked a better time to score her first two goals of the 2005 season.
Bruch, who led Nebraska with nine goals and 19 points as a freshman in 2003 and didn't play in 2004, broke out of a season-long slump to score two second-half goals on headers off corner kicks to lead the Huskers to a 2-1 victory at Colorado Friday night in their Big 12 opener.
Bruch sat the 2004 season after suffering an ACL tear and admits she was relieved to score again after starting out 2005 with no goals in eight games.
Bruch’s return is a big plus for the 6-3-0 Huskers, who have been hit hard by injuries.
Freshman Lindsay Poehling was injured in the Colorado game and may be out for the season. Freshman Ali Lokanc, sophomore Sari Raber and senior Aly Scace are all out for the season with injuries.
“It was a fantastic effort,” Nebraska coach John Walker said of the win over Colorado. “It was a very difficult game.”
